    Girls 2019 OYSA Winter League

Games start today! Due to birth year switch problems, age groupings are combined of top u16, u17 & u18 playing u18 together and then other top u18 and u19 teams playing u19 together.

U16 is the weakest, with 80% of best playing ecnl, gda or up in u18 w/gps03s. Rumored to be even weaker next year with exodus of even more top players.

U14 & U15 looks fairly strong and more in line with regular age grouping and competition levels of old.

A few new teams splattered around but most of the same as last year.

    Predictions? Thoughts? Concerns?

Good luck to all the players from all the teams!

I stopped reading when you included fc Portland Ecnl and thorns in the 80% of top players...

Someone lied to you. Fc Portland Ecnl wouldn’t even be top 4 in state.

Thorns 03 lol what a joke.

I’d say 30% of the top players are at Ecnl or da and that’s even a stretch

***c 03s left OYSA to play in RCL because OYSA 03 age group is so watered down. FCSC 03s might be next. GPS 03s continue to have to play up in 02 age group to get a challenge. The 03 age group in OYSA should be called “Division 1” at this point.

        Saturday girls 03 games:
4-3 GPS “B” team over Salem
        1-1 Thusc ties United
        1-1 TFA Willamette ties PCU
0-3 Eastside loses to OPC Blue 1 A” team (Old Crossfire)

        Sunday:
        1-0 Eugene over United
0-6 PCU loses by 6 to FCSC
        1-0 OPC A-team over Thusc
        ?-? OPC B-team v. Eastside

Other than FCSC, it does look like a fairly even “Division 1” type grouping. FCSC should play up 2 years in u18 Premier along with the GPS 03 team or on age in RCL (WA league) with ***C 03 girls. There is no challenge playing 03 in OYSA this year. Two actual B-teams, several small club teams like TFA Willamette and PCU, gutted THUSC & United teams, even more gutted Salem team (essentially a 3rd B-team), typically bottom level Medford team...

Love that you think the 2003 FC Portland ECNL team is good or the Thorns 2003 players. Nevertheless, the group does have an FCSC team that beat GPS, the Oregon Premier team that only lost to GPS by a goal last year in the state cup, etc. So, I'm not sure why you would need to bag on these girls ... This board is toxic.

Just for some clarification, FCSC actually can't play in the RCL as they are not an RCL club. RCL is a bit different than an open league. They only have 1 team per district, and for vancouver, thats ***C. There are other leagues in washington that include some other decently strong teams, but that would be there only other option.

What they should do is just move their team over to ***C and then put both teams in RCL. Their old coach left and is there college coordinator now, so perhaps they would like to work with him again as they strive to play beyond highschool.

Or Fcsc03 could just play up two years in u18 with gps03 to get decent competition. The 03 division has been decimated.

Our team (not salmon creek) likes it. We used to be near the bottom of Premier every year. With Ecnl, gda, and teams like gps & ***c playing up or leaving entirely, we’ve steadily moved up to top 1-3. Parents are high as kites knowing our players will now be getting D1 full rides. We score a lot of goals in a Premier division. Every time another girl or team leaves our division, our girls get magically better! Now if fcsc would just leave or play up, we could WIN the Premier Division of 2003 in the entire state!

This makes me laugh because (a) they’re in the RXL third division, and (b) they didn’t crush it last year in the ‘03 premier or state cup. So the logic doesn’t follow. This is just a club wide decision to play in RCL.

Best Solution for Girls Winter League Premier

                    Sharing this from another thread:

At this point the smartest thing to do would be to create one HS bracket for 10-12 grade (00-03 teams). Imagine an 11 team premier bracket as follows:

                    Westside 00's
                    RVT 00's
                    Eugene 00's
                    CFC 01's
                    Crossfire 01's
                    Vancouver 02's
                    Eastside 02's
                    Eugene 02's
                    Westside 02’s
                    GPS 03's
                    Salmon Creek 03's

That's a decent premier league. Younger teams may have some tough games, but I'd put Vancouver's 02's as a favorite against everyone on this list. Since it's 11 teams, you only play everyone once.

Then state cup comes along and everyone goes back to their age groups.

This would be a great solution but would require two things OYSA isn't capable of:

Backbone to be firm with clubs and make sure that this premier bracket really did represent the top 11 teams in these age groups.

Wisdom and good judgment in seeding the state cup pools once age groups come back together.

This is a great idea! OYSA, are you listening? If you build it, they will come.

Wish you were running OYSA. This would really be the best.
