Why pay thousands to fly teams hours away when they cannot beat or perform
Well against teams 30 minutes away?

Answer: Because just as the Ecnl model has shown, you just have to hide from nearby teams and call yourself elite so people assume you have to travel that far. DA is even worse at this.

Fact: If you combined DA Ecnl and USYS teams in Oregon you would find that the top team would be varied among all three of those entities.

Fact: CU ECNL forced families to pay thousands and it resulted in teams with -30 goal differentials

Fact: Thorns Academy would get beat or challenged better if they played teams in state rather than spend 100k a pop flying to play some other crappy team.

Sorry, But playing in the Portland metro doesn't cut it for competition! You need CA, OR and WA to get the right level of competition, minimum. You can't do it by having a round robin of ECNL vs. DA vs. GPS vs. (insert the Club and year that has 1/2 a chance against these others). Those extra local matchups (that will never happen) would help and save expenses vs playing Burlingame or Idaho.

      - signed : just another guy that pays $$$ for kids in soccer

You are truly delusional and evidently unemployed as you seem to have time post this same crap on every single thread! Get a job then your kid can afford to play some decent competition for a change.

If people took all the time they spend on this forum and use it toward actually earning a living, they might not need to complain about the costs of playing soccer.

Most coaches make around $5/hour coaching your kids. If you think that is too much than you have a problem

Club owners are the ones that make bank. Coaches have to string together 2-3 jobs to get by but have to seal with the parents 24/7

A good coach can make 50+ plus a hour private training tax free. 4kids 3x a week is some good
pocket change for teaching something you like to do.

$5 a hour for 14 kids = $70 per hr. Not to mention generally all out of town expensive is picked
                          up by the team.

Wow $70 hr. Is that even enough money to live on?

lol and it's not like they can coach for 50+ hours a week either. Most often they're paid a flat rate for the season or year, not by the hour. They can supplement with private training but if they're coaching multiple teams there isn't much time for that. There's a reason most coaches have multiple jobs, live with multiple roommates and drive ancient cars.
