Earthquakes GDA cost nearly $10,000 all-in (by all appearances a good program, but absence of many good ECNL clubs in Norcal GDA has been a disaster in managing costs) . . . tells you what Peregrine would charge if they could get away with it.

It also shows the true cost of the program and how much money Peregrine is willing to invest in local youth. We are very fortunate to have a for profit club that is so generous.

Peregrine is funding GDA on the backs of OYSA families - all the smoke and mirrors doesn't change that fact. Particularly galling is that we all get to fund Mike Smith and Eric's salary, when the actively work against Oregon clubs with a semblance of independence.

Our club gave over $100,000 in scholarships last year, without asking other clubs to fund our programs; thanks for asking.

No, the childish part is the petulant complaints that "Timbers are competing against us with our own money". It's not your money, it's their money, shipdit.

As for my kids' club, it is probably one of the leaders (particularly among the blue-chip clubs) in recruiting and providing (subsidized) opportunities to lower-income kids. (And not just on the A team, either). It assists rural communities all around the state in running their own local soccer programs, even though many of these places are statistically unlikely to ever produce pro-level talent. And we don't pay our DoC a six-figure salary, despite his outsized pedigree and involvement in youth soccer and in the game of futsal.

I don’t think the league fees and state cup fees would change much if the Timbers didn’t run the that portion. OYSA player fees seem to be pretty minor and based mostly on insurance.

I don’t know how much those people make seems like a smaller organization than when OYSA ran the league.

Please don't encourage another league getting started. There are some real problems with the way OYSA/Timbers are set-up, but we are at least "kind of" (DA and ECNL excluded) unified at the moment.

Don't know Erik, but Mike seems like a nice enough guy . . . .both get club ire when they use OYSA programs (league, cups, ODP) to pimp Thorns Academy.

Would be better if OYSA fixed this silly setup with the Timbers. If Mike and Erik are going to support leagues cups, ODP, then they shouldn't be involved in Thorns Academy. If they are responsible for marketing Thorns Academy, then they shouldn't be involved in OYSA stuff. OYSA keep some control over costs.

Simple.

Think some of the complaints about Thorns Academy would go away . . . whether GDA is viable long-term is a different subject.

The ECNL honks should be pleased. Every dollar that goes to pay for Mike and Erik doesn't go to pay for Thorns.
