GREAT JOB! FC Portland Marine. You represented Oregon in a fine fashion.

BTW- I believe that many teams had guest players for this tournament. Including an East Coast team that had San Diego players on it.

How many were actually scored by Marine players?... Any? Although there were some good plays, the ties against SoCal and Texas had more to do with the 20 minute halves, then dominant defense or keeper play. Not to diminish Marine's ManU performance, but isn't the coaches dependance on guest players kind of weird given this team was supposed to be runners-up in State Cup?...
Both Marine and Yellow players scored and the goalie that played was from Marine and she made many great saves. Also, the defensive guest player (number 6) was an amazing defender, and kept a lot of people from getting by her. So 20 minute halves or not, if team play had nothing to do with it and the keeper had nothing to do with it, wouldn't they have been scored on a lot more than 3 times out of 6 games? And the team was listed as "FC Portland Girls" just for the record. 1 of the 3 guest players from Washington was injured early in the tournament and didn't get to play the majority of the time. And according to parents from other teams, the majority of every team there had guest players.

Seems to me someone with some personal issues is just trying to bad mouth FC Portland and stir up some trouble.

"A Closed Mouth Gathers No Foot" --- maybe that quote can be translated into something equivalent for typists.

Maybe someone who doesn't have first hand knowledge of the events as they took place place shouldn't be the one giving a breakdown of how the games were played or not played. And as a parent of a Marine player, I have to say the defense (which consisted of both Marine and guest players) played a very key role in the lack of scoring from the other teams. And because the goalie is my daughter, I'm not going to brag about her play, but I will say she played great as always! And for the scoring, honestly, I can't recall who scored the 4 goals, but I do know at least 1 of them was scored by a Marine player.

Congrats to the Marine girls. I'm sure the amount of playing time didn't matter to many of the girls compared to the overall experience. It truly is a tremondous tournament to participate in. Not only to you get to be treated like you play international or professional soccer with the different rules of the game (subbing, etc.), but you get a chance to be around the nation's finest in teams and players.

I don't think that playing time should matter in this type of tournament. Even though only a few Marine gals played in the opening games that "actually mattered," I'm sure they eached had an exciting time among the best teams in the nations.

              Facts

The team that played was not FC Portland Marine. They never claimed to be. The team was FC Portland. Each team is allowed 3 guest players and the rest have to come from the same club. Maybe instead of knocking Marine for not using their own players, you should be thankful that so many good FC Portland players play up on the U15 team. If all the Yellow players that played in this tournament played for Marine like they could by age, the U14 State Cup outcome might have been different.

Wow. Even though I'm not a fan of the "unregistered user" rules, I must admit that since you folks started posting, the conversations have certainly gotten interesting. With that in mind, the previous post mentioned something that intrigues me.

Would the outcome of 2009 State Cup Final have been different if the FC Portland Yellow players eligible actually played on FC Portland Marine?

I doubt there is any way we'll know for sure, but I heard that SSC Ireland may play a friendly match against the Oregon '94 ODP team in Salem around June 7th. As the ODP squad is comprised of older u-15s and younger u-16s, than the talent pool of that team should at least be equal (if not superior) to the fortified Marine team. Based on that assumption, we may get a glimpse of "what could have been." It should be interesting. If anyone wants to know, I'll report the score afterwards.
