Are you talking about the DOC’s belly? It’s pretty bouncy

Instead of two medium-sized community-focused clubs both with good reputations, we now have one giant club that is rapidly becoming the most despised organization in the local youth soccer scene.

      Way to go!

Classic Oregon soccer to attack those at the top.

Top of what? UPDX has won a grand total of zero state cups, and it's top teams are either full of TA washouts, bribed recruits from other clubs, or sponsored teams from Woodburn and other places far away from Portland. Top of the most annoying list, sure. Top soccer club? BM seems to have learned all the wrong lessons. Club seems to be ENTIRELY about recruiting, and very little about development.

I don't know what you're trying to accomplish with these posts, or why you're so bothered by another club ... but considering there are less than 100 people who read this thing, it doesn't really matter.

You mean, United PDX South right?

The (boys) soccer scene in this area, and Salem has been a step above TTL forever. Lots of teams that don't even show up there. Girls on boys teams, playing 60 games a year. Good for the enterprising soul who grabbed a few of these kids and got them to leave "boys league" and trade their replica La Liga jersey for UPDX to up the club's profile.

I have a player at UPDX. I can confirm that little development had occurred.

Have 2 kids at the club - have nothing to do with the boys' teams that seem to be getting all the outside attention.

Have had positive - if imperfect - experiences with my 2. Currently have 2 very caring coaches, nice parents/kids. Coaching has varied from so-so to good; all of the coaches have been positive, with maybe one exception (and the exception was a very good coach in their own right, just learning age-appropriate).

I don't get how "hate" is used to talk about a youth/community soccer club. Guess I don't get the uber-competitive boys' scene.

The girls scene is just as bad (if not worse), though UPDX isn't a player on the girls' side.

But as you may have noticed, competitive soccer at the top levels can be more than a bit cutthroat.

You are probably responding to a coach or DOC from a club who lost a player to them. This is how those jack@sses work at most clubs.

Have not previously posted, just pop in to read from time to time. Not really the fault of the club if a kid doesn't develop. They are there to point kids in the right direction. Kids who want to get better will. They will spend hours with a ball on their own time away from organized practices. If your child has not improved and only touches a ball at team practice they have made their choice. Enjoy the short time they have in youth sports and focus on academics.

                          Good coaching helps with development.

Player development is the responsibility of the parent. That is why you should attend every practice and game and yell at your kids to make them play they way you think they should play. It is also useful to use the time in the car to and from practice/games to tell them everything they've done wrong. It is also important for you to yell at other kids to tell them to pass your kid the ball.

How’s this going? Especially this -

“The combined club will include 4 US Soccer Federation A-licensed coaches; 7 training facilities within the Portland metro; and will offer a unified curriculum and coaching development platform. Finally, the combination of clubs will allow greater specialization and focus within the club’s administrative functions by separating management and soccer roles, which will drive development of best-in-class member services, playing and coaching development platforms.“

TWO MAJOR PORTLAND YOUTH CLUBS MERGE TO FORM UNITED PDX
Largest club in Oregon creates new opportunities for Portland youth players

Portland, OR - February 5, 2018 - Northeast United Soccer Club (NEU) and BSC Oregon (BSC) are excited to announce their intent to merge. The combined club will be named United PDX (United).

The combination of NEU and BSC will create the largest soccer club in Oregon, serving nearly 2,700 families throughout the Portland metro area. The club will introduce soccer to children in neighborhood-based programs and continue their development within a single organization through a city-wide high school program. United PDX will also consolidate its US Development Academy program – an elite player platform for children under-12 to under-14 within the city.

The combined club will include 4 US Soccer Federation A-licensed coaches; 7 training facilities within the Portland metro; and will offer a unified curriculum and coaching development platform. Rene Gonzalez, president of NEU and United commented: "With BSC, we found strong alignment for providing the city with an independent, non-profit soccer club. The combined club will provide economies of scale in administration and allow the club to separate management and soccer roles, which together will significantly increase the club’s level of professionalism in supporting our staff, members and volunteers.”

Ryan Youngblood, United's Executive Director observed: "At the heart this is the desire to provide more opportunities for our youth to learn and love the beautiful game. This always starts at a place close to home . . . By uniting our clubs we now have the ability to create pathways for our players so as their love and desire for the game grows they can expand their wings into a larger community and still feel like they’re at home."

Brandon McNeil, United's technical director commented: "The unifying of two innovative soccer clubs in order to better serve all levels of soccer within our communities is so exciting. Consolidation and attraction of the top talent into truly one club will greatly impact the ever-changing soccer landscape across our Region!"

"Both BSC Oregon and Northeast United Soccer Club have always had an excellent reputation as a youth soccer clubs," said Jim Field, President of BSC Oregon, "We have found a synergy between our organizations regarding the core values and philosophies in player and coaching development. United PDX will allow the already talented players and staff within the city to further progress to the highest levels."

The mission of United PDX is preparing children for the opportunities and challenges of life through the game of soccer.

United PDX will operate as member-based 501(c)(3) non-profit. It was only missing one piece in the excerpt above.

“Brandon McNeil will bring an unmatched recruiting program that will include offering spots on Region IV and Oregon ODP Teams if your child chooses to come to our club first.”
