    Chinook Slam

This weekend is the Chinook Slam, jointly run by WT FC and Southside, and taking place in two venues--Vancouver's Harmony Sports Complex and Tigard High School/Cook Park.

Wait--what's that? These are two separate tournaments? (checking). By gosh, you're right!

Regardless, have fun. Cue sarcastic comments about how these both are "rec-level" tournaments from the ECNL/DA trolls in 3.. 2... 1....

Not sarcastic at all. Simple truth is both tourneys are geared towards rec level teams. Won't stop the Thornz Asylum from trying for some big wins though!

Motivated rec teams could compete at the "bronze" level of most local tournaments. They would be flattened in "gold" or "premier" levels of same.

Referring to every team below the level at which your snowflake plays, is childish and juvenile.

This is kind of what happens to the local ECNL teams when they play in their showcases. Fortunately for them, they are matched in flights against teams who have equally putrid records. Unfortunately for them, the local ECNL teams still get flattened. For them to have any success, they have to enter tournaments and play in the third or fourth divisions, like they did at Surf.

I think you're a bit confused. You must be thinking of Thornz Asylum, GPS, and Timbers Alliance teams. They don't even qualify as high as "rec" level in most cases.

Thats not true and you know it. Look at Surf Cup seeding. Some ages, ECNL teams were in the highest brackets, along with non-ECNL teams (like GPS and TA teams). Other ECNL teams were placed in lower brackets.

Truth is, your team is placed where they can best compete. And the results and standings are the proof.

The higher level ECNL teams across the country all consider the Portland ECNL teams to be rec teams.

I would consider them to be "wreck" teams. No need to insult recreational soccer.

Tournaments for recreational teams are great. For everyone else, not so much. Watching my child play five games in 48 hours is ridiculous.

Good news is that clubs like Vantucky between their two tournies attracted 700 teams.
That's not bad grossing $490,000 for 4.5 days work! Too bad they do it at the expense of the players

If it's "recreational level", as you suggest, the five games aren't as bad. Everyone gets some playing time, the play isn't too hard, and it's fun for the kids.

Two games per day mainly becomes an issue at top levels of soccer, especially if half the kids are playing the whole game, and the games are all being played at full speed, and kids whose work rate starts to decline get in trouble with the coach.

But under "rec" playing conditions, it's no big deal.

Might have grossed $490K, but they netted -$100K after expenses - which included a lot of beer for the management staff.
