This latest short lived iteration league promoted by us club soccer it's ecnl and specifically it's ancillary showcase events can bring in some of the best players from the best clubs in the country for sure, it's called a combine or cattle call. Those players not in the top 5 to 10% of all the clubs attending are simply filler or another revenue stream.
There are many ways to cater to college coaches through ID camps, combines, player showcases, tournaments.
A 'national league' is not one of them, to your point no coach is travelling to Oregon to watch Crossfire Utd play FC Portland, or watch them in Utah or Idaho. Even at the crowded showcases Oregon clubs are not often on the radar unless they face a great club team, which they don't do very often due to their poor performance in league play which seeds them for the showcase.
