Actually the original poster was pretty close to spot on.

The TA doesn’t have the top players at every age group. This is even when playing for the TA is pretty much free. Top players that do not do private lessons do not get picked....and.... the TA can’t keep the top players because their program drives them away. This is why local alliance teams consistently beat the TA in Friendlies all year long

The 2005 TA refuses to play friendlies. They have been afraid of exposure.

Too close to home, huh? They struck a nerve....

There is a reason why the TA Struggles. They choose too many selfish Westside players that have character flaws. If the TA could step away from their Westside/Private Training group of players they might find better quality....on the pitch and off the pitch. In turn they will have better results.
Right now, I'm having a hard time thinking of more than one current or former Vancouver player at Westside. While perhaps more played there in the past, the notion that they once comprised the club's top talent is a very funny joke. Maybe long ago. But Erik Hutardo went to Westview. Rubio Rubin went to Beaverton. Chad Barrett went to Southridge.

Of two recent prominent players who weren't from the Beaverton area, Danny Mwanga was from Portland, and Adrian Villegas was from Hood River. But none of these places is Vancouver.

It's a good thing, overall, that WashT has become a respectable club, and that fewer kids are having to drive long distances to Beaverton to train. But the idea that Vancouver kids form the backbone of Westside's past success is fantasy.

Please define respectable. By any normal definition of respectable, WashT isn't even close.

You must be right. Vantucky players do not go to Oregon in droves like they use to. There are a ton of Oregon plates in the parking lot each night at harmony now. Their DA program is one of the top programs. They have a great surface to train on. They are building a clubhouse with 6 Futsal courts, workout facility (in conjunction with 24 hr fitness), cafe/pub, PT Clinic in 2019. They have women’s and men’s teams where High School players can mix in each week. Their turf fields will be paid for on Sept 30th 2019 so they will own the turf fields outright. Parking lot scheduled to break ground Monday, April 2nd and be completed Friday, May 18th before tryouts. Championship 11v11 grass stadium scheduled to begin spring of 2019 (called Big Al’s Field). All of this would be even greater if Washington Timbers ownedthe land.....

Oh wait, Clark County will be donating the land peramanently to the Washington Timbers and moving baseball in 2019 down the street on 18th st. The state parks and Rec will then expand the parking lot. Phase IV development will have W T F C building a 7v7 grass championship fiel and a 9v9 grass championship field.

You are right.... Vantucky Timbers aren’t respectable. Their vision is weak. They are not even trying to better the soccer in the area. Just look at what they accomplished in the past 7 years.

Two mergers, three new turf fields and a lame list of more stuff coming in the near future. They are a bunch of losers.

Did they get annexed into Oregon? Yes, the MLS Timbers/Thorns DA grabbed this footprint of clark county and since they (Timbers/Thorns) have defacto control of OYSA they pushed through legislation with UYSS that brought clark co washington into Oregon and out of the state of Washington. GW in his short sighted ambition to net any potential pros named them Timbers and the unintended consequence is an autonomous club that plays in Oregon and doesn't have to play in their geographic state. Hence less player defections than the 30 years of prior player migration to Oregon.

Finally someone got one up on the Timbers/Thorns, karma?

                Dumb luck?

Screw the DA. It's just bs propaganda that you've now lost your identity to. How do you like being referred to more by your league rather then your club or team.

It's all they can hope for at clubs named: ADF, Crossfire Oregon or Crossfire United, jus sayin.

It's merely a trickle down reaction after clubs were being knighted as 'Timbers'.

Marketing to the extreme when you have nothing to sell.

                    Privates anyone?

Washington Timbers are now "respectable". Which is excellent news for soccer families in Clark County, and possibly on the east side of Portland (I imagine if they are attracting Oregon players, it's mainly from NEU, PCU, or Eastside, not any of the Washington County teams--if for no other reason that commute time and distance).

But the idea that Clark County players were ever a significant presence at Westside is lunacy. Even before PDX traffic went to hell, the bulk of players in WST were from, you know, the west side.

Speaking as a Westside parent, I'm glad to see other clubs competing at a high level. But success in one or two age groups--especially after the clubs that routinely crushed y'all in the same age group last year lost heavily to TA--doesn't make WashT suddenly the best club in the metro area.

Still don't know the difference between Crossfire Oregon and Crossfire United, do you?

A brief clue: CU is a joint venture between Crossfire Oregon and THUSC, for the purposes of fielding a single combined set of teams for ECNL. No point in doing such a thing on the boys side; as Crossfire Oregon can put up a competent boys' team without help, and THUSC is not a strong club for boys.

CU is not a "club" in the traditional sense.

And of course, Crossfire Oregon is itself a partnership between several Clackamas County clubs, and one that for some reason chooses to trade on the good name of a great Seattle program. (Anyone from Crossfire who whines about the Timbers' Alliance needs to remember the advice about glass houses).

Stop with the excuses Westside. Enough. You have always been losers, but never gracious. The most pathetic part about this whole discussion is how you (WESTSIDE) are the last ones to realize that your club has become irrelevant. Instead, you are that old man talking smack from the porch to young kids.

Prior to the clark co. annexation into the OYSA, the elite/top SW Washington players descended to WSM, FC Pdx and ESU (west villa/3Rivers) and other clubs in droves. For obvious reasons these clubs provided haven from travelling to Eastern Wa. & the Seattle area for away games. Nowadays the elite hs age players tend to migrate in smaller numbers to the Timbers DA & Thorns DA based on ability. Younger ages u11 to u14 are somewhat stable and without much movement, unless the ilk of pipe dreamer clubs with promises of trick moves and college coach exposure reach out to them; FC(ecnl), CU(ecnl), ADF & GPS as examples.

At the older ages the best players from Bend, Eugene, Corvallis, Hood River and the coast still join the top teams in the metro area. But not as regularly as the use to in decades past.

The label chasing is the only mask available to clubs given the reality of how average clubs have actually become.
