01/02 - Thorns Academy roster

Only someone with breathtaking tunnel vision would say this was "some of the best talent in the region." I'm not saying either ECNL team did any better. The talented players are divided as follows:

1/4 at Crossfire United
1/4 at FCP
1/4 at Thorns academy
1/4 on their respective local club teams

All academy did was dilute the talent further and the fact that you think they assembled the "best" on the GDA team (does that include the kid who was rostered because she is a carpool buddy with the starter?), shows how narrow your tunnel vision is.

This about sums it up. Diluted. However, I think this GDA team is top 1-3 and wish them the best next year. They all seemed to enjoy it this last year so that's a good sign. I'm happy Oregon will continue to have several choices for travel teams and wish them all the best. Represent!

So this thread was started by a thorns academy parent that wants people to affirm their choice? Sorry not happening. Have fun locked in the GDA warehouse.

100% at NWSL Portland Thorns USDA
0% on their respective local club teams aka Crossfire U & FCP

All academy did was set the stage for a talent consolidation in the USDA.

Once you sign up for the GDA nobody hears from you or sees you. It is all consuming.

But you can post shots on goal from training sessions on Facebook.com. Any ball struck by any foot that travels more than 3 inches in the general direction of the goal is a shot on goal.

Seems like the Thorns DA was able to assemble some of the best talent in the region for this age group, based upon comparison with ODP Region IV roster and US Soccer Training Center invites.

Yes, there are some who did not tryout for the DA, but this is arguably the best roster any club has been able to put together for this age group.

Question will be how quickly the coaching staff can further develop and get this group of young women to work together. Check back in 6-9 months for follow-up.

The Thorns are collecting money from girls that will never travel.

Has anyone ever asked why boys academy pays $0 but they are collecting about $53,000 from each girls team and $21,000 of this is from the non rostered players for any travel event

Stop the bs. All the ECNL players pay $1800 to $2000 just to get in the club and are still on the hook for ALL of their own travel costs which is around $8000 per year.

The GDA pays ALL of those travel costs for their players.

Now we know why you chose to be a "full time" youth soccer coach. That mathematics wasn't your strong suit growing up.

How do you come up with $8000.00 for travel. On the high side, showcases are a $1000.00 per player (2 or 3), 2 Cali Trips @ $500.00 each, 1 to boise or colorado @ $500.00 and a car ride and hotel to Seattle. At most $5000.00 for travel.

You would pay about $3000.00 in showcases for anything other than ECNL.
