So now that the dust has settled let's talk about what OYSA will look like with the academy and ECNL players gone. My predictions (next year age groups):

U19 - Eugene. Losing to westside in state cup finals was a fluke and they lost zero players to academy or ECNL.
U18 - Salmon Creek has owned this age group for years but they lost several players. FCP? Or who else?
U17 - CFC and Eugene (state cup finalists) lost no one so they look to be the favorites going forward. Medford lost Red Card Susie and with their limited pool losing any one player is tough to replace.
U16 - hard to imagine anyone but Vancouver.
U15 - this is where it gets intriguing. Westside is done after losing so many to academy. GPS lost at least 3 to ECNL but are still favorites - right?
U14 - I have no info on this age. Did any Eastside girls go to academy or ECNL?

U19 - Westside will continue to give Eugene trouble. That Eugene squad is very complacent and the DOC kept them together at the expense of the rest of his club. Spoiled and complacent means they aren't built to withstand adversity. Look for Westside to repeat as state cup champs next year.
U18 - Initially I thought FCP has this locked up. NEU making semis was a fluke thanks in part to Eugene imploding. Westside is promising but lost players to GDA. BUT...with FCP losing 5 to academy, that means they may move girls up from this team to ECNL. If so, it's Westside as the favorite.
U17 - No one tops CFC as long as they stay together.
U16 - Same as U17. The only one who can take Vancouver down is Vancouver - if they splinter. If they stay together they will cruise next year.
U15 - GPS unless they splinter. If they do (they are more likely to splinter than CFC u17's or Vancouver U16's), look for Eugene to move up.
U14 - too young to see any sort of pattern or dynasty forming.

In fairness to the U18 Eugene team this year, I was impressed with their composure and class after the final. I don't know the teams but enjoyed watching the game. The coaches and teams really seemed connected to one another. It was a great game. From what I heard, Westside was down due to injuries coming into the game and saw a player moved off to the trainer's area. Some parents told me that there were juniors and a sophomore on their team.

She builds a strong team around her daughter for self interests which usually means constantly rotating rosters, and threatening players who try to leave. She's bipolar. FCSC hasn't had a consistent roster in this age group for years, and definitely haven't owned it.

I'm the OP and not a parent in this age group or a Salmon Creek parent. I was going off state cup results. They have won the last several years, correct? If I am wrong, who do you see winning state cup next year? I don't know anything about them and have no idea if what you say about their coach is true, but you obviously have a strong opinion about this age group.

Eugene has one sophomore, one senior, and the rest juniors. The team will stay intact next year except for that one senior (who is a very strong player). No idea about Westside.

Eugene DoC is classy. Also, Eugene 99s already secured trip to Regionals by winning FWRL. Losing State Cup was an upset but not upsetting.

Agree with all the above. Only change I see could be U17. Predict Eugene will overtake CFC if the group of strong 01s that currently on the imploding '00 team come down to play with the '01 team. That would dramatically change the Eugene '01s for the better.

I have heard rumors about this (mostly on this site). Is that for real going to happen? I thought the 00's had a coach they really liked. But I agree if there is some secret stash of strong 01 players that didn't play with their age group this year that could change things. Does CFC have players playing up on their 00 team too?

I think CFC was pretty good this year, but they're not a shoe in. I honestly think it could go any way. These teams are all pretty even, and most games were won and lost by one goal. Winter league had a 3 way tie for 2nd place (Crossfire, CFC, and RVT). WT FC was just one point behind. Heck, Eugene was down in 6th place for league. I was thinking Crossfire was going to be in the finals this year.

And by this point, girls aren't going up to ECNL. They're only likely coming down - for playing time.

Honestly, team depth and health is important at U17 too. Girls get more injuries at this age, and for the less skilled brawny players, their chances of injury are higher.

Not sure. Have older players but looking at results, I wouldn't count out Crossfire or FC at 01 either. Crossfire actually beat, tied and lost in double OT to CFC. If some move over to
those clubs or down from ecnl, it looks like a 4-way race.

FC Portland's ECNL 2001 team isn't bad either. They will probably be a top 5 team in Oregon at the 2001 age level. Don't count them out!
