Sorry, tiny you aren't too well informed.

Ignorance as usual, enjoy your bliss.
Walmart goes into a small town. They low ball pricing and small stores go out of business.

What do you think happens to the prices at Walmart when there is no longer any competition? Competition is great from a pricing standpoint, but it does dilute your talent pool.

Thorns had to charge a very low price to get players to leave. Even at the low price, the 01-02 turn out was fairly small considering most of the team is left over from last year.

How long do you think clubs will subsidize costs when there is very little ROI from a business perspective. Look at MP's background. He is not about giving away free lunches.

As long as they(Timbers/Thorns) sellout every 1st team pro match this type of expense for their kiddie DA is much better than having to pay a 30% income tax on profits, it's an accounting write off that allows the TImbers/Thorns to give back to our local youth. As long as the pro team is the hottest ticket in town expect it to be paid for. So far they(Timbers) have sold out every game for 7 straight seasons and counting. So for now expect it to be taken care of in perpetuity. Goldman Sachs blood aint Sam Walton's now is it. Enjoy your time shopping at WalMart.

GW just loves to watch the soccer bums at local clubs sh1te themselves over this, that's about it.

That makes a ton of sense. Spend a $1 so you can save $0.30.

Is that why Goldman Sach's required the bailout?

Perpetuity? So you watched a few episodes of Shark Tank and trying to use big words?

With over 50 million in profits the Timbers have problem spending 5 million on the DA it is worth it to them vs paying uncle sam. Hank P/Merrit's Dad saved GS. Just like watching you tread water.

              Are you really that stupid?

How do you think GS was saved? Of course Hank was the one who saved GS. AIG bailout was around $13B and GS was the largest recipient of the public funds from AIG.

If they were looking to give away money, there were other programs they could have subsidized, pay ODP coaches more, charge less for the league, etc....

That is great they are subsidizing this year's team and if you are going to be able to take advantage of the savings.

Just don't be stupid with your argument about having a problem spending $5M, etc...

You don't get it, MP and GW want to save Oregon Youth Soccer and build a DA program that is subsidized and one that creates great college and pro players, they have done it. HP has endless resources to ensure mp can carry out this dream and their (peregrine) unique out of the(MLS) box business model, has more profit than they know what to do with. They have put a priority on spending for the DA, just like targeting a DP, it's worth all that scratch and it's a game changer. Just deal with reality and understand their goals aren't yours, that's how it is. Or consider yourself just plain stupid.

Thorns Academy was also subsidized last year. They went to California, Canada, Washington, etc. 16 players on next year's Academy team were in Academy last year. Only 16 players can play each match due to sub rules. Thorns Academy still only practicing 2-3 times per week like last year and double headers on the weekends. Not much changing next year at Thorns Academy nor in the rest of Oregon girls soccer. The girls that were happy where they were at, stayed and a few swapped around. No big deal. Play on.

Now they have elevated to the USDA, it's a whole new ballgame. Game Changer.

They now play in a different league than OYSA, yes. Now they play Burlingame & Lamorinda instead of Westside & Bend. Different and perhaps even better but not a game changer. Ecnl wasn't a game changer either and Oregon Ecnl teams play much tougher NorCal competition than GDA will. Don't get me wrong, I like GDA & ECNL. The more options the better. But, just like putting on an Ecnl patch doesn't change that same old Oregon player, neither does putting on a Thorns patch. More exposure to different colleges, yes but same thing many Oregon players do without GDA/ECNL.

The game changer will be if Oregon gets a bigger population with better athletes and better coaches. Playing in a different league doesn't change the game, it just changes the travel time & scenery.

Understand that the DA isn't considered a league instead: The U.S. Soccer Development Academy was founded in 2007, after a comprehensive review of elite player development conducted by the USSF, to serve as the top tier for youth soccer in the United States and provide an elite everyday environment for player development.

Whereas the ECNL & OYSA are USYS & US Club sanctioned leagues for youth clubs/teams.

It's important to understand the differences before you post your opinion.

It's important to understand that Thorns aren't following any of the main tenets of the USDA. Now, I'd give you that it was going to be different IF the Thorns DA actually followed USDA and:
                          1) Mandated a minimum of 4 trainings per week.
                          2) Didn't allow HS soccer or any other soccer of any kind besides national team commitments.
                          3) Didn't allow other HS sports
                          4) Didn't charge a tryout fee
                          5) Didn't play more than one match per weekend
                          6) Had all & only top notch coaches who had developed multiple youth national team players
                          7) Rostered only the top players in the state with no friend, family, club bias
                          8) Etc.

You should probably check as well. The point of the OP is now the Thorns DA will have other DA teams to play against. 25 league games and a handful of showcases.

Maybe you should reach out to US Soccer and get their take, since they granted our NWSL club the USDA distinction. Maybe they would reconsider the appointment and give it to another club? Let us know how that goes.
