There has always been rules for ODP coaches to not recruit. Timbers don't care about the same rules they warn others because they think they are the pros. Green jackets don't make these hacks anything more than average club coaches.

The proof is in the poor turnout in both numbers and quality.

This is like an MLS coach complaining that a scout from Real Madrid is checking out his players. It's one thing when one local pay-to-play club tries to steal players from another, but THIS IS A STEP UP THE F---ING PYRAMID. Only a selfish ass of a club coach would try to keep his players out of GDA.

Certain clubs like the to think they are, or should be, equivalent to the Timbers. They're not.

All clubs are considering leaving alliance and they should boycott the terrible practices that the Timbers and thorns are using to sell players.

The original post noted the Timbers complained about clubs being unethical in recruiting practices. This in an email from Mike Smith to local clubs. So this is about the duplicity of the Timbers and the fact that despite all the money and the positional advantage they have, they still back door the clubs because the Timbers can't figure out how to produce a quality product.

No they just figured out how to subsidize the crap players in Oregon Youth Soccer in the USDA.

Sadly, local clubs haven't figured out this method and ask for upwards of 10K per player just to be part of a neighborhood club.

Wonder how this will work out, wait don't have to wonder the Boys DA is rolling after 5 years and boys club soccer is gutted. In 5 years the Girls DA will make the diluted mess of clubs even more diluted and gutted.

Some people never learn and are doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over.

None of this would of been possible without the NASL timbers from the 70's and early 80's they planted a seed decades ago they fostered a kinship for anything Timbers.

I was born in a small town.

Today there are no outstanding youth coaches or local clubs to keep the best from going to the subsidized Timbers/Thorns, it is what it is.

Economic choices to pay ex pats and millennial misfits crazy dollars for babysitting is the actual cause.

Its not a mistake. The boys at the DA were being held back by club soccer and now have a chance to develop. Club soccer is a business and are most interested in numbers to keep the machine going.

This generation of club coaches has all the answers on what to teach and how they know what should be taught as a 20 something kid, but they can't produce results on the field and can't handle criticism. That's why it's so easy for kids to leave for anything else (DA) it is of course subsidized and branded Timbers. It's sad what Oregon has become but without any club leadership or proven club model of success or record of achievement on the field this model will keep producing what it does.

Right. And Tom Atencio NEVER recruited ODP players away from their clubs to join his THUSC club and later the CU ECNL.

Atencio did it a few years and we parents and some club DOCs complained to OYSA.

Guess history is repeating itself.

Boys DA did not need odp to achieve its end - $500 price tag assured no competition. Thorns are 4x that and more than most local clubs - recruiting through odp has always been frowned upon!

Remember ODP is not the OYSA ODP anymore. It's the Timbers/Thorns ODP vertical pyramid and they call the shots. BTW, the girls DA is 5x cheaper than the CU & FC P travel program platform.

You are missing the reality of the pyramid Timbers/Thorns structure, TIMBERS/THORNS run both the ODP & fund thed DA. Didn't you ever wonder why the SHIRTS they wear for ODP say Timbers/Thorns, truly clueless

TA recruiting from ODP was forever ago. Easily over 10 years ago. Anything TA did is irrelevant at this point. Timbers behavior is occurring today and relevant. They are also taking advantage of their conflict of interest. They run ODP and think because they are the Timbers it is okay to use it as a vehicle to recruit.
