    Question

In the next 1 to 3 years does anyone think the Timbers/Thorns pro club will allow any of our local clubs to become part of the National League level of the USDA or will it be the same ole, same ole-- the neighborhood local clubs being pushed in to little DA, US Club Soccer & USYS platforms and no Big DA?

To date they (Timbers/Thorns) have shutout all the local clubs of this opportunity with the complete trust and support of US Soccer.

Don't know. On the boys' side, big DA is a very expensive proposition. Timbers are required to offer it and they cap cost at $500; don't think any local club could support that amount of cost at a $500 price point. Focusing on little DA and alternative paths at the HS age seems like a more prudent bet for local clubs.

On the girls' side, as long as ECNL continues to be strong, don't think CU or FC would jump ship. However, both aspire to be best in the state, and that aspiration may dictate future steps.

That is from the clubs' perspective. What direction DA goes from on high is a different question. They seem to be going younger and broader. Think they diluted their "exclusive" brand a bit in doing so; but if they truly believe in the programs they are pushing, they may not care. They also appear willing to compromise on a number of items that seemed holy before; will be interesting to see if that trend continues, or if they tighten things down.

All pure speculation on my part - not at one of those clubs and don't have any insights as to what is going on at the fed, other than what I read.

Many non MLS/NWSL Clubs across the country have 'Big' DA programs for Boys and Girls, but these are nationally ranked clubs and their parents pay the bill. A few non MLS/NWSL clubs are subsidized, but not many.

US club Soccer will continue to offer leagues to clubs that can afford it, but since they are being marginalized with the DA higher tier now in place do you think the Timbers/Thorns DA would let US Soccer allow a local club to elevate to that platform in our local market, or just keep it as is, staying where everybody is at now, the status quo and not National DA level?

Sorry not really interested in clubs staying in USYS or US Clubs leagues, that's established. Will local clubs ever get the chance to be part of the 'Big DA', I say no. Not in Oregon, which is a shame for the clubs and kids.

No way will Timbers/Thorns allow anyone else to play in their cash drawer. No way.

They might not have a say in it.

And the OYSA league you play in and State Cup you just finished isn't called the Timbers/Thorns either. Heck it's not, right?

              Nope.

No they will not. There also aren't enough players for there to be the Timbers' team and then say GPS USDA academy. I am a coach from a small town, who played in college, and had a cup of coffee as a pro in europe and s.america. As we've seen with US Dev Acad Timbers (and original FCP boys academy team, and current ecnl teams, and now with Thorns Dev Acad.), there usually aren't enough players for even one national level team in Oregon.

They will eventually hire actual scouts who will pluck players out of obscurity, if needed, and lure them to The Big City (lol).

PERHAPS. when one of the Timber's players makes it big, say Euro Champions League success, they will have enough money and desire to create a second pro team or academy in Oregon, using their own money and money from other investors. until then, send your players abroad, to la or seattle, or to the timbers academy and have them work they butts off.

Also, the political situation in the USA will get so bad that these kinds of concerns won't even bother us. Playing a kids game for money, haha.

The monstrosity that is the OYSA/Timbers contract was not mandated by US Soccer - it was the handiwork of the Timbers and OYSA.

Feds have caused plenty of problems in Oregon soccer, but Oregon soccer leaders get to own the OYSA/Timbers contract.

US Soccer & MLS/NWSL clubs have much stronger 'contracts' than the OYSA & Timbers/Thorns. We get to own the former and the latter, it's nice.

Will have to take your word for it.

Crossfire Premier in WA has a big DA, but there's a much larger population of boys soccer up there. I think it's more likely that we'll see one or two boys ecnl teams as it spreads from the east coast.

Is the point of this statement that if US Soccer trusts in the Timbers/Thorns, all of us should as well?

And the parents pay thousands. Same league, totally different program.

ENPL, like ECNL, is now the more expensive second tier option.
