The harsh reality is teams were selected based upon politics
    Precisely.

That is ok. Why do you care?

Except the girls at PSU and OSU currently. The girls verbally committed to Boise State and Oregon currently in the Thorns Academy. Maybe do some research...

I think the OP's point was that no one DEVELOPED by Thorns has signed anywhere. It's really hard to make a legitimate argument that winning games by double digits against inferior opponents is "developing."

            Same claims made about Onyx.
We really won't know until the class of 2020 what kinds of players FC Portland and Crossfire United's "development" model turns out. I find it telling that very few if any young girls that come through their in-house programs actually get on the ECNL teams. If you look at Crossfire United's PPG record, the teams actually get WORSE over time.

Easy there, you are shining the ugly truth about ECNL. Kool-aid drinkers that have been spending $8k a year in here in 3-2-1...

Totally agree. But at least CU and FCP have a developmental program from ULittles on up. Thorns has nothing. Unless you count ODP which is on life support.

I don't think any clubs can tout "home developed players." And I think it's normal for talented kids to seek out more successful teams and more talented teammates.

There wont be too many girls from the Eastside teams playing for Reign. That is a 2 hour commute in Rush Hour.
Stop talking out of your *****. Reign will have two practices in Seattle and two in Preston which the home of Eastside FC merged with SU. Two coaches at Eastside are the GDA coaches for two age groups. There are girls currently from the eastside of the water
who play for the SU ECNL, so GDA is a blessing of having two days on the eastside.
If your dd was on a competitve team, you would know two hours of commuting a day is
nothing for a top player on a top team.

Thorns? I am pretty sure that SU/EFC and Crossfire Wa will allow their DPs to play against you jokers during GDA. Might be just GD by 7 or 8. Maybe.

What? Once Oregon girls join the Thorns DA they will automatically become national team level & on their way to full rides to UCLA & UNC. Why else would girls be willing to give up the rest of their lives to play soccer? Washington teams should be scared.

Sort of like girls paying $7K to play ECNL are guaranteed a full ride to D1 schools.

Let me say the handful that go to D1 aren't getting picked out in an ECNL "showcase" at age 13. Scouts and coaches are not paying much attention to Oregon ECNL players right now. Our daughter's friend is a Sophmore and playing in ECNL league and her parents are doing all the heavy lifting trying to get her on the radar for her colleges of choice. If your kid gets on the radar than a showcase is a place for a coach to one-stop watch them and whoever else is on their list. But you can get this at any top showcase or tournament. Doesn't have to be ECNL. You have to chose your school and then do the legwork. Most ECNL coaches don't tell you that. They regurgitate the "pathway to college" rhetoric and lead some of these families to believe that the ECNL league will provide all. Not true.

Many people miss the point about ECNL. Some parents of ECNL think it is ECNL and it is the "pathway" The ECNL haters say, my daughter is awesome and I am going to pay for ODP, iD camps, and other showcases vs ECNL travel costs.

The reason ECNL is the pathway is it attracts the top players and the speed of play can't be duplicated elsewhere. The speed of play in ECNL is the pathway to college. Go to Surf and look at the top bracket and see the college coaches lined up to watch the players with speed. I may be wrong but in all our years going to Surf and playing in the top bracket I never saw: Burlingame, California Storm, PSV,...

This! Give everything else up for gda (including HS, guesting and all other soccer) to end up at the same college she would have without gda. Perhaps a lower academic school since grades & advanced course loads will take a hit playing gda. Concordia, Portland State, OIT, Boise State, & one or two to UO & OSU, will give the exact same commits to the same Oregon girls if they don't do gda.

Just like in Oregon, parents will drag their kids around to play for a badge (ECNL) even if the clubs that have acces have terrible reputations of player development (FCP and Crossfire.)
Same thing will happen at California Storm, PSV, etc. They will recruit and delusional players seeking a pathway to college will now all go to GDA, just like they used to for ECNL.

Oregon, yes. NorCal, no. NorCal top clubs stayed Ecnl. Top players will too. Rage Ecnl team that didn't win a match has a college commit list that the entire state of Oregon has and will never have. NorCal is full of smart, wealthy, soccer-savvy parents. Unlike Oregon parents, NorCal parents know most of the national team spots are going to SoCal. Academics, other sports/activities and college pathway ECNL, that allows for the former, have been chosen.
That said, NorCal has a much bigger & better player pool so both Ecnl & Gda can survive and both can do better than Oregon. The only thing we have more of in Oregon is Kool Aid.
