1. Registration fees for your own club
2. Some of your club's coaches won't have teams
3. Some of your club's teams will be short on players
4. You've committed to ECNL and you can't back out

What was ridiculous in the last year's tryouts is that the tryouts were all scrimmages. There was zero planning from the coaching staff and evaluators. It was overwhelming to evaluate so what they probably had to rely on were the records of all the ODP and RTC players over the years. Most of the roster for the 2001/2002 were Timbers players from Eastside, CFC, Eugene, Medford, and just a couple of outliers. Most were already ODP players. Here is how they will prioritize players for the roster:
Existing roster of 12 (very firm, so be prepared to have your kid sit on the bench)
CU ECNL (if there are any)
TA players
FCP ECNL
Timbers are a bunch of crooks. Look who is leading the charge, Merritt Paulson, trust-fund baby. Henry Paulson, his father, gifted him $30M for the Timbers. He didn't earn anything himself. Henry was a dirty, Goldman Sachs guy. Google Henry Paulson and you will see he was part of the Goldman Sachs crew that you can blame for the financial crisis. I love the Timbers matches but I sure hate the filth behind it all.

She came home totally disgusted that the coaches weren't even watching or paying attention to the kids trying out. She got offered a spot (she was a multiple year ODP player), but it was a huge, huge turnoff for a kid who thrives on being directly challenged by her coaches to step up her game. She felt like they just put a bunch of talented kids together on a roster and weren't going to do any coaching to help them get better. She might have been wrong - once they got their roster I'm sure the coaches actually started paying attention in practices - but again, it was a huge turnoff for her.
It is actually a small soccer world and the club coaches do talk with one another-even play on men's teams together. They know about players.

It turned out that he was discreetly watching all of the players and knew exactly what he was looking for-our club team had about 5 to 8 ODP players in a given year, plus he knew most of the other players from all the state cups, leagues, and tournament games.
