Well since this anonymous forum noting can be confirmed or denied. But while on the subject this forum beats the hell out of being lied to straight to your face at 'Observation' night.

Which caused us to tryout for the DA.

They need big numbers to raise cash to pay for van rides to Burlingame.

            You're worried that you'll lose
            1. Registration fees for your own club
            2. Some of your club's coaches won't have teams
            3. Some of your club's teams will be short on players
            4. You've committed to ECNL and you can't back out

What was ridiculous in the last year's tryouts is that the tryouts were all scrimmages. There was zero planning from the coaching staff and evaluators. It was overwhelming to evaluate so what they probably had to rely on were the records of all the ODP and RTC players over the years. Most of the roster for the 2001/2002 were Timbers players from Eastside, CFC, Eugene, Medford, and just a couple of outliers. Most were already ODP players. Here is how they will prioritize players for the roster:

Existing roster of 12 (very firm, so be prepared to have your kid sit on the bench)
CU ECNL (if there are any)
              TA players
              FCP ECNL

Timbers are a bunch of crooks. Look who is leading the charge, Merritt Paulson, trust-fund baby. Henry Paulson, his father, gifted him $30M for the Timbers. He didn't earn anything himself. Henry was a dirty, Goldman Sachs guy. Google Henry Paulson and you will see he was part of the Goldman Sachs crew that you can blame for the financial crisis. I love the Timbers matches but I sure hate the filth behind it all.
This is absolutely spot on in regards to last year's tryouts, and the primary reason my DD turned down a spot on the 01/02 team. She came home totally disgusted that the coaches weren't even watching or paying attention to the kids trying out. She got offered a spot (she was a multiple year ODP player), but it was a huge, huge turnoff for a kid who thrives on being directly challenged by her coaches to step up her game. She felt like they just put a bunch of talented kids together on a roster and weren't going to do any coaching to help them get better. She might have been wrong - once they got their roster I'm sure the coaches actually started paying attention in practices - but again, it was a huge turnoff for her.

Did they get the $125 from all 13? That's a good haul for three hours of kick arounds.

One of my DD's club coaches is now one of the GDA coaches. He used to do the same thing and some people would complain. It turned out that he was discreetly watching all of the players and knew exactly what he was looking for-our club team had about 5 to 8 ODP players in a given year, plus he knew most of the other players from all the state cups, leagues, and tournament games.

It is actually a small soccer world and the club coaches do talk with one another-even play on men's teams together. They know about players.

"Discreetly watching all the players" while his back was turned to the field of play and he was on his cell phone. Ok. Totally worth $125.

Get over yourself. He was obviously using his camera set on selfie mode, looking into the camera to view the field behind him, to watch the girls play. That's how real coaches do it.

a lot coaches, and parents, use Soccer Meter on their phones to analyze the game as it goes.

Yeah, that's what he was doing. This year he told the girls he won't even be at tryouts (personal conflict). He will just have his phone there set up on a tripod.

I hear they are begging kids to join them.

Hopefully they get more than 13 out for try outs. I feel bad for them.

Nope. He hates cell phones. Wrong coach.
