No you just have to pay for private training sessions with KL.

The recruiting gets worse in College. Most schools will bring in about 8 freshmen every year and 1 or 2 may pan out and play all for years. If you arent good enough now, you arent going to be good enough later.

What KL does in practices is he separates the kids in A and B teams, so the pineriders always feel inadequate and they know that they will never get those minutes in the matches because KL thinks they are no good. When he stops the play, he only gives advice to the A team players while the B team players are ignored. Aside from the humiliating and berating comments I've seen him make to some players in the past, he'll ignore these B team practice players and act as they don't exist. He is indifferent. If he plays with the kids, he will only pass to the starters even if the B team players are available to receive a pass. So, if he has the ball, he'll look to the outside, see an available B team player, and then pass to the starter who has two defenders on her. He's top notch that KL. Lots of integrity and character for sure.
The Crossfire kids are nice kids and last year they were at the top as far as talent so it's sad to see so many didn't get developed this past year. It's truly disgusting that Crossfire ECNL is splitting the team into "A" team and "B" team at practices. That's probably the grossest thing I've read in awhile.

This is not something you would ever see at GPS. Does FC Portland do this to its ECNL players also? Seems very divisive.

No, however you have a whole different dynamic at FCP. Mean girls. When the games get tough and then they are down, the players get angry with each other and make each other feel bad. It's a different kind of divisiveness.

Now, in the case of the CU ECNL 03s, I'm not sure what's going on but in the older age groups like the 01s and 02s, JK definitely protects those starters and gives them nearly 100% playing time. He can't see that the reason why the games they play don't result in wins is because those starters can't play the full 80 minutes at optimal speed and they make a lot of mistakes. He won't even give the opportunity (well maybe 5 minutes) to the pineriders so he can never test out their skills and abilities. Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell who makes all the decisions on those teams because KL micromanaged JK all year.
Not true at real top clubs. People rag on FCP all the time for "recruiting" but truth is top players want to be there and are selected at tryouts instead of players that were already at the club. Happens every year at all age levels. This doesn't happen much at clubs that have a hard time holding on to players (think Alliance) so those clubs have to sweeten the pot with guaranteed roster spots.

If you can't keep up, step aside.

I got to the point where you said "elite levels" and then started laughing. Elite levels. Yeah, right. Do you post on Facebook that your daughter is at an "elite level"? Ok, sure, go ahead and tell the family that she is an "elite level" player, grandma already thinks that regardless. But don't sell that on here. CU is anything but elite. And really, there is very little soccer in Oregon that is "elite level".

Doesn't take much to be "elite" when compared with Alliance kick and chase in OYSA.

Who would want to keep up with bottom feeders who bicker and squabble and bring their teammates down. I'd rather have my daughter keep up with leaders who push each other, support each other, and work together to help each other get better. Mean girls will always be mean girls and they will never be respected or successful in life.

Well then you definitely don't want your DD at GPS, CU or Thornz Asylum.

They aren't. Not true, at least on the team my daughter plays for.

To clarify - I meant the players aren't separated into A & B groups at practice. The comment that they are all very nice girls is completely true!

Splitting teams apart may be appropriate, if the two groups are working on different skills at different times.

If it's just so the "A" players and the top coach don't have to waste their time with the bench-warmers, that's another matter.
