As mentioned by other posters, MLS funds the boys. Let's stay on topic though. My response was in reply to the poster that said ECNL needs to step it up. Would you be in support of OYSA shutting down and everyone move back over to OPL so that the ECNL teams get the funds instead? It's still funding girls, which appears to be your gripe.

Good question. I too, am interested in the response.

They can't afford to subsidize anyone. Solution? Raise fees for the OYSA suckers and charged a banned $125 tryout fee for GDA. Money problems solved (for this year at least).

It's real simple professional Soccer clubs like MLS Timbers and NWSL Thorns fund their academies on their own dime. They can't take donations since they are a for profit business. You cannot voluntarily donate to the Timbers, period.

They (Thorns/Timbers) get to choose who gets a free ticket for DA soccer in their house, it's based on talent level, nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry you are so sadly confused about the inner workings of a professional ball club.

Again another example of a clueless victim suffering from no or low information.

This concept that you are paying or donating/funding to the Timbers/Thorns DA's is like saying you are donating funds to the grand prize winners on the The Price is Right Game show.

If OYSA isn't funding the GDA, then they will have no problem if everyone migrated back over to the OPL. Fact is, most see it pretty simple in that, their OYSA fees go to Peregrine, which then goes to GDA. If it's no big deal to Timbers, then maybe everyone should ditch the league they feel is ripping them off.

              OYSA only collects one fee
..membership card fee... None of that goes to Peregrine.

Enlighten us exactly how any Fees for League, cups or RTC/ODP after expenses of course (profit) are being directed to the Timbers/Thorns DA program?

Where is your paper trail to back up your wild claims.

Forgive the miscommunication. The statement should have read "If OYSA LEAGUE fees aren't funding GDA...". We all know OYSA just gets the card fees (still a pretty chunk of change) but Peregrine gets, what, at least one million in OYSA league, state cup, other tourney fees (parking fees at their tourney), etc etc). No paper trail is needed. Just good old fashioned common sense, but what does it matter. Since it doesn't fund GDA as you say, it won't hurt anyone if all the clubs pull out of the OYSA money sucking for profit league. So what you are saying is that all the clubs can pull out of OYSA guilt-free.

This all has OYSA's name so it makes them look bad making a 10 year deal with Peregrine (aka, Timbers/Thorns). Time to shut that ship show down.

If you have issues with this setup up why not let OYSA know your concerns? The OPL was a disaster and leaving the current OYSA structure for a version 2 of that failed experiment isn't really too sexy or appealing.

You can't hurt the Timbers financially unless you can destroy the single entity MLS which they are a franchisee...if the Timbers are hurting for cash flow in this market, which they never will it seems, guess what the MLS structure has a fail safe and kicks in monies from the other franchises to keep them solvent. Which is by design.

Switching youth leagues has no real world financial impact on the Peregrine beast, they could just raise the price of season tickets by a mere $10 per person and get more profit from that slight adjustment than all the profit from running the OYSA services.

The OYSA leagues, Cups & RTC/OPD revenue may be 1million revenue stream but at the end of the day after expenses what do they really profit after payroll, taxes, advertising, web content, referees, schedulers, admin, etc..etc...

We all want to believe that our efforts are noticed and really important to us, Peregrine doesn't even know your club name or frankly even care, they are focused on their business.

Which brings us full circle as to WHY? WHY are they doing these mundane and perfunctory duties of a non-profit state youth association, it's really odd.

For Peregrine, when young Merritt finally gets the blessing from the gatekeepers of the MLB to become an owner in the good ole boys club, guess what, he may want to flip this MLS Franchise and his asking price will be very high since he has so many verified and perpetual streams of revenue one of them ableit a small one is this services contract with OYSA.

ROI baby. It's all about getting his Daddy's monies back to papa and moving forward to the actual Major Leagues.

And you thought this was about you and your club struggles for upcoming tryouts.

Why are you so scared? I don't have to let anyone know my concerns. I think Oregon soccer should take a sharp change in direction and drop this OYSA/Peregrine money grubbing operation. It's time to let someone else get the money.

It wouldn't shock me at all to see OYSA being nonexistent within a couple of years and where does that leave Peregrine? Buh bye.

They have control. And that's what they want. The money is chump change.

OYSA is on life support and Peregrine thrives today.

PEREGRINE will thrive with or without an OYSA contract.

So where will it leave them in couple of years?
With a match sell-out tecord approaching 200+ games and the MLS commis ringing the bell at the NYSE selling shares.

The question you should be asking yourself is where will this leave you and your club.

We'll survive. But more importantly, where will this leave you? You seem quite worried about the idea of OYSA fizzling out, which is exactly where it's headed whether you like it or not. It was a bad deal, but don't worry. I'm sure word will get out how not only is Peregrine ripping everyone off but how they screwed over OYSA too. If Peregrine doesn't need revenue from OYSA, perfect.

Good luck, brave Peter, in your sword duel with GW.

I've got your back and fairy dust too.

Why can't the all the clubs start their own league? Are Timbers Alliance teams not allowed to leave?

Someone can start something new. TA clubs are not locked in per previous posts.

Just adding that I know people felt OPL didn't have good intentions, that's not to say others can't come together and figure out a better plan. I personally think the TA clubs are in a good position to come together and start up something else. Others will follow.
