    Dear Former OPL Clubs

Baby, take us back. I know we left and we hurt you bad. We got fooled by that bimbo OYSA. We thought the grass was greener. We were wrong. Please take us back. We need you. We miss you.

    Signed,

    Every Oregon soccer club.

Yeah, I really miss that cul-de-sac league and post season jamboree.

    Not.

Dayum, the FC and CU honks are really freaking about about GDA, aren't they?

Which honk are you? The honk whose kid travels free for scamming every OYSA team and every team who entered OYSA tournaments? Or are you the OYSA or TA honk who is funding them?

I actually don't mind subsidizing training for top-level talent (though I doubt very much that some of the financial yarns being spun are true). It's how it works in much of the world--the US is unique in pay-to-play.

But the defenders of the pay-to-play system scream bloody murder at the prospect of a dime of their dues going to assist some poor kid who might have talent, but whose mummy and daddy can't afford to pay thousand and thousands of dollars for a travel team.

GDA is full-throttled trying to prove the pay to play system doesn't work and they have this new model to pay for it all. Well they are proving it's a pretty easy feat in Oregon. Their girls don't have to pay to play because they figured out how to get about every soccer family in Oregon to fund it.

OYSA is saying they only get the player card fees. Peregrine (aka, funding for DA programs), is getting the meat (club fees, tournament revenue, etc). No wonder travel is free. It's all making sense now.

I'm all for dues going to those who are in need. I'm pretty sure I could walk circles around you.

Form a new league. No TA clubs allowed.

Even if your speculation is true, I'd rather such money go to fund DA/GDA than to buy Merritt Paulsen a new car, or add seating to Prov Park.

I think all Oregon clubs should be in one league and funded by a non-profit who isn't in cahoots with a shady program.

OPL seems to be the best option, but I just don't know if TA clubs could get out of their contracts. My guess is not. And maybe TA clubs are fine funding it all.

What's so funny though is TA clubs are paying for GDA. I would have never believed this statement this morning.

And why do you think it would do any better than the Only in Portland League did?

The TA clubs, generally, know and understand that they are feeders to the Timbers/Thorns (at least as far as top talent is concerned). And FTMP they are OK with this. I support DA and GDA programs. This doesn't mean I'm 100% in agreement with how they are run (I'm not), but this seems a better way to run a railroad than the old way of doing things.

OYSA leagues need to be run by the OYSA, not the Timbers/Thorns mafia.

OPL was a disaster with no infrastructure or oversight it was built on the premise of the foxes running the hen house.

BLOW UP OYSA and start over.

Too late. Apparently OYSA is stuck in a 10 yr contract. So feed most of your kids' soccer money to the academies while those kids get more opportunities than yours while less go to the low income scholarship families, or consider OPL. Or find someone to start something new.

OYSA signed some sort of contract with the timbers because they hired a director from Oysa. Clubs can walk any time they want.

You turds already tried that and didn't have anyone to play. It was FC vs THUSC vs LO and lasted about 1 year before you all came crawling back. And you know why? You could no longer recruit girls to your clubs because none of the incoming players at all of the other clubs had no idea who you were.

Everyone knows that you are girls clubs who don't develop players, you recruit them. Always have and, until the GDA announcement, figured you always would. The reason everyone is freaking out is because you know that you are not going to be able to recruit like you have.

Keep spinning your yarn about how you are being fleeced so the GDA can exist. The funny thing in all of this is you have been gladly fleecing yourselves all along. It really is funny watching you all fall apart at the seams over this.
