This regional league will turn into a west coast league by next year. Cant wait to see those vs SoCal results. I am sure the college coaches cant wait either.

GDA should have funded about 25 deserving clubs and the NWSL clubs.

Famous coach Andres Deza of De Anza Force, just took a job as the new DOC of the GDA - San Jose Earthquakes. Many of his players played on the YNT. Crap on GDA all you want but looks like GDAs determination to be the best league will at the very least be equal to ECNL.

First, that is all rumor about where he will land.

Second, DOCs of clubs with GDA cannot coach a team.

2 good or better existing team, 1 bad team, 4 teams that dont have more than 2 teams in their whole club and 3 start up clubs with no teams.

Maybe the Portland Thorns do have a chance in finishing in the top half.

Long windowless van rides to play these teams? It gets hot in the warmer weather.

Are they really going to take a bus to Utah to play one game? That's a 5 day trip with driving - for one game. I know the whole GDA model is fewer games more training - but you lose training days sitting on a bus. And you also lose classroom days. I guess if you can't afford to fly and have a strong player GDA might be a good idea...?

No they would be flying. Program includes airfare. Girls will be traveling same as boys academy players. Ground transportation to Seattle area games, however.

They took a bus to Vancouver BC this weekend. Is that considered "Seattle area?" Or another example of bait and switch?

The US Developmeny Academy League begins its inaugural year in 2017/18. There are no teams from Vancouver, BC in the Thorns bracket.

Ok I will amend my original question. Are they really going to fly to Utah for one game? I know the GDA model is fewer games more training - but it's a 3 day trip, missing two training days and at least one school day for one game. Didn't GDA think about this? And before anyone responds with "this is how the pros do it" let's remember - THESE ARE NOT professional athletes. They are children whose primary "job" right now should be attending school. 99.99% of academy players will end their soccer playing at the collegiate level or below. So why use a travel model designed for adults who are in that .01% of professional athletes?

Oregon ECNL also have Colorado and Utah in their brackets. Keep in mind that players at this level don't mind a flight to a game with their teams and many girls actually look forward to it.

                          Windowless vans?

Discounted thorns program is not Sachs Fifth Avenue. It's the dollar tree and sometimes you have to cut corners. The vans will have windows so even without a/c they will live. You can't complain yet. NorCal games are only 8 hours away by van.

Yes, I know all that. The question I have is traveling that far for only one game. ECNL does travel partners so when Oregon girls fly, they play two games in a weekend. I get that the GDA model says fewer games, but it seems like that model only works in high GDA club density areas like So Cal and the east coast. To put it another way, will the Utah team fly to Seattle twice - once to play crossfire and once to play Reign? That seems like a tremendous waste of players' time (not to mention the cost and resources used in flying the team twice - and before you say GDA travel is free, I'll remind you NOTHING is free. Someone is paying for that travel).

I understand that the GDA model is designed to be different. But did anyone ask if different was good or necessary in this case?

Will see how old it gets when you travel with 18 and 4 of the girls never get in a game.

Hey it's a free trip for players 15-18. And they get to watch high level soccer. How about a little gratitude?
