If it costs families the same, they have the same club coaches & were already practicing 3x/wk, isn't u12 DA just a different patch? The u12 boys can play other sports & other soccer outside of DA can't they? If not, boys at this age shouldn't be specializing yet. Unless they can't play other sports, I don't see any reason for players not to do DA.

If it costs the clubs more, don't see how the clubs won't have to charge more for DA this year. Wouldn't be fair to put the club in red or charge non-DA players more to make up the difference. Do you know how this will be handled?

Our DA encourages multi sports. During the year we play other sports during our normal practice week. My son has done yoga, bball, badminton, tennis, futsal and martial arts this year.

But can they play soccer in a different league or tournament with different team? I know DA players are welcome to play Rose City Select.

Those all sound nice but can a DA player also play on a competitive basketball team in the winter or Lacrosse team in Spring?
          Didn't think so.

The DAs should be funded by the club. Yes, that means by the rec players or other mechanisms. It's not supposed to be just another "league". It's not supposed to be fair.

DA for 06/07 is absolutely stupid. Period.
Get your kid into a good club that offers training for all of its teams three days a week. Let your kid explore other sports on his own.. not have his DA coach tell him to play handball and badminton...these are 4th graders for crying out loud. If your kid wants to specialize in soccer then look for DA or ENPL or Timbers Academy in 8th grade. Any sooner is just ludicrous.

                Good luck with that.

Even if DOCs wanted to do it, think a number of boards would say no way.

Which is perfectly okay, but then they should lose the distinction.

Perhaps there are too many DA teams in the state? They should be restricted to elite players, seeking elite training. Anyone saying "these kids are just 10!" is advocating for options THAT ALREADY EXIST, and have for existed for many years.

DA is supposed to be different, and it's not supposed to be for everyone. I guarantee you other states are treating it as such. Is OR not prepared to do that? Fine. Don't participate. But don't particpate and then try to water it down either.

The very idea that any organization is trying to weed out "elite" players at 06/07 is laughable. They will join DA..get ok training and be drinking the Koolaid of DA, and in two to three years they will be passed up by kids who have caught up in growth spurts and received better training elsewhere who will take their DA spots. All the while they could have stayed at their own clubs and developed with friends.

The are welcome to play for anyone even unaffiliated pseudo teams called 'select' or 'not select'. Some even play for Tillamook Select teams that play in the local cheese factory ware house on the weeknights. They are playing.

Sounds like you've got it all figured out. For some, though, there's a recognition that the same old crap isn't cutting it. There was a time in OR when the game got changed, and the results were pretty obvious. Same thing needs to happen again. Rec mentality needs to stay in its lane.

Multiple options for the players in Oregon is a good thing.

                            Agreed.
In fact let's give all the clubs DA - or just let them register in OYSA and name their teams "DA"....

Fine. None of it really matters. Same players, same coaches, same clubs, same development. The name or patch just keep changing. Just find a place where your kid is happy and go for it. Basically, they're all going to end up exactly where they would've with the old club or patch. Esse

Then change is needed. Why accept status quo?
