Player card fee increases will help; have to watch those getting too high, otherwise could lose clubs to other sanctioning options, but reasonable annual increases in cards will help.

The Timbers' deal may require material reworking.
How did OYSA go from no income, to running the show and now lose money? Timbers siphoning off to much cash?
Not hearing good things about its financial health. John Madding gone, 2 directors voted out this weekend.
How are they going to turn this ship?
That's 3 very pro-Timbers people ousted in the last month. Lots of people are working behind the scenes to remove the Timbers from youth soccer in Oregon.

Hired a ton of people into highly paid positions AND send most of their money to the Timbers to run the league / state cup / ODP. Not very intelligent on the part of OYSA but if they hadn't agreed to it there wouldn't be an OYSA.
So they are running out of money? I guess that's what happens when our fees are used to subsidize free travel to Los Angeles for thorns academy players. This is the future of Oregon youth soccer as controlled by the Timbers/OYSA monopoly. Don't like it? Move.
The structure of youth soccer in Oregon should be an embarrassment to every adult involved. It needs to be restructured.
Timbers are bringing in millions off of leagues and cups at the expense of clubs while getting free exposure in OYSA leagues and cups . . . it turns out that OYSA isn't really doing well in the structure either (went from a staff of 17 to 4.5).

I think some of the new blood at OYSA gets that there will be an OPL #2 if major changes aren't made.

There is already an OPL #2 of sorts - ECNL. Not a huge fan but they are at least providing another option which somewhat keeps the OYSA clowns in check. But everyone on this board wants ECNL to fail - which is like hoping Wal-Mart drives out the local grocery and hardware stores from your town. I don't understand the logic.

Right now ECNL only caters to wealthier white females.. one reason it's somewhat frowned upon.
Are there cases when an ECNL has turned away a talented player because of race or economics? Or is this just your interpretation? Do you have examples?

The fact you are asking the question is sad but really common. Start reading up on "pay-to-play" sports ... thousands of articles everywhere and then graduate to ECNL and USMNT. You would be surprised how many filthy rich white people grease the wheel and try and buy coaching and other training advantages beginning at very young ages.. 6,7 years old..for their children of mediocre athletic ability in the universe of US Soccer.

You didn't answer the question. So I will. Neither ECNL club will turn away a talented player based on her inability to pay. And you are distracting from the original point. ECNL is a viable option - not for everyone - not for boys or players who aren't as motivated or talented or live in outlying areas. It's not a perfect option - but it is the ONLY non-OYSA controlled premier soccer option for Oregon. For that reason alone you should be hoping it succeeds. Unless you have a vested interest in OYSA holding a monopoly.
