As someone who has planned out of state trips for our TA teams, your figures are laughably wrong.

$700 round trip tickets - where are they flying - the East Coast? Most of the places the Thorns teams are going run $300-400 round trip.

3 vans for a team of 22? Wrong. 2 vans - one 15 passenger and one 7 passenger. Cost $700 for 3 days.

10(!) rooms for 22 people? So so wrong. At most they are using 7-8 rooms.

3 meals per day at $15/meal - come on, now you're just yanking our chain right? Soccer teams stay at hotels with free breakfast (seriously in 10 plus years of doing this we have never NOT stayed at a hotel with free breakfast). So it's two meals a day and cost is not remotely near $15/meal.

It's a shame the neighborhood clubs CU & FC can't cover the parents cost of the kids travel, the NWSL and MLS club have no peer in this youth market. It's not even a debate. Even on an anonymous forum the local clubs are seen milking the families for useless travel in the incredible race to nowhere. The funniest and most poignant posts are the retorts going after the pro clubs that subsidize the kids youth soccer experience. They(local clubs) have no defense or answer so they attack the benefactors. Nice pivot to nowhere.

It is one thing for a pro team to subsidize youth soccer with profits from the professional club.

It is another thing to profit from youth soccer, and then use a small portion of these profits to subsidize your academy team.

The Thorns had no option, but to subsidize the cost or else no one would show up. As it is there was limited turn out which is why they allowed HS Seniors to play out there senior year.

Once the Thorns DA gets establish, I am sure they will be introducing some new costs to the parents.

So parents foot the bill. It's still cheaper than ECNL by 1900 per year. Not as good but cheaper.

Nope. More like 17 to 20 on rosters.
As far as tryout fees, there were over 80 kids in the 04 tryout and 86 kids for the 03 tryout.
Not sure what numbers were for the 02/01 group.
$2125 (total annual fees plus tryout fee) is a great deal. Includes all training, amazing kits, all air and ground transportation, all hotel, etc. kids get season Thorns tickets and get to be ball girls at games if they want. Experience has been fantastic so far. Hoping the program thrives and grows.

Well at least it's cheaper than other alternatives. Spending cash to drive to NorCal and beat the living wits out of Burlingame and PSV Union is questionable judgment but at least the kids get to snap up huge numbers of goals.
