I'll admit when I've coached in the past I tended to be a bit bad at trying to coach the game. I got better at talking to the kids on the bench about the game rather than the kids on the pitch.
As a parent I try not to get into "coaching" from the sideline. It's a work in progress, and I know it's bad. Admitting you have a problem is the first step :D
