This would appear to be a legite commitment to the women's game in Canada. Does anyone know who is funding the program? My guess is that Canadian tax payers are footing the bill and not the Whitecaps.

Sure, in socialist Canada, workers pay for everything that non-workers benefit from. I'm sure the OP of this thread would love to see a socialist economy here. Portland is full of Bernie supporters. Problem is, most of them don't work. So who is going to pay for all the free stuff? They still haven't figured that one out yet.

As far as the OP, I for one, find appreciate the post. It's always good to see what organizations do for youth soccer. It is Vancouver Whitecaps and they do bring in a lot of money and provide jobs.

I could counter with "I choose to send my kids to private schools,pay my taxes, and let your kids go to public school for free." I could even add, my taxes are paying for your public school teachers to coach your school district's soccer players."

We can't even do the boys side right. How do you expect the girls side to work?

Our laws don't allow true development of players. If you develop a player in Canada that player becomes worth something to someone else. In turn, they get purchased which keeps feeding the machine. Our soccer country is still in the Ice Age where you can't be compensated for developing players. Until they change those laws this will be a pay to play game where results only matter.

If they do change the rules and allow compensation for developing players you will see every club switch gears.

Time to re-direct back to the original OP and our learning about an elite academy ideal in another country, based on the notion of PIF for players not otherwise playing club soccer. An elite few players.

Thorns academy doesn't have to do anything.

A: People and even the clubs are dumb enough to send players to them even though they have no idea what they are doing.

B: Ecnl Oregon has proven to be nearly a straight up scam. Pretty much like SAT prep course for average players who have gullible parents along with a few crazy parents that hop from one club to another (not including onyx) Go pay 10k a year to be underdevelop and maybe get to college that you could have done without risking and paying all that money.

C: So much mis information going and scam parents and coaches out there, people don't realize if your kid is good, they will get what they want with a good coach and a decent team. 5$-6/ it.
