All right folks, Copa Dad here. A few years ago I stopped doing recaps (at Marc's request), but since this was the state cup final and the last match these guys will play together in Oregon (regionals is next month), I'll make an exception.

Game started in ADFs favor, with the team in white dominating possession and keep WSM from breaking out. Westside's defense held firm for about 15 minutes or so until an adf player was able to penetrate down the middle. Keeper QS came off his line to make the save, but the ball fell to another ADF player at the top of the 18 who blasted it into the open net. 0-1.

That woke up Westside who started to get forward more effectively and we're able to earn set pieces I see close to goal. The first few did not succeed, but a drive into the box was cleared out for the corner. Off the corner, YE sent a perfect cross into the six yard box, where it met the chest of JI who bundled it home to draw WSM level at one apiece, which is how the first half ended.

In the second half, westside surprised ADF with some ball pressure, and ten minutes in ML collected the ball after a turnover and took a shot on goal. The keeper parried it, but right to the feet of BJ who slotted it home. 2-1 for the guys in red.

WSM came close to an insurance goal a couple times but didn't convert. With about ten minutes left, several players started cramping up and with the team out of substitution moments, had to endure a few dangerous attacks from ADF, requiring a couple spectacular saves from QS to keep the lead. But after five minutes of stoppage time, the whistle finally blew, and in their final year as a team, this great group of boys --great group of young men, finally got to lift the trophy.

This is effectively the end of this age group. U19 is the left over kids who did not graduate. More than any other age group in history this group has proven you can't buy success.

Explain? Who in this age group tried to "buy success?" Don't tell me about a club, but instead speak about the players. I am sorry, but I have held my tongue for years and not said a word on here. However, I have read all of the nastiness and hateful, jealous spewing towards clubs and players. In my opinion, this was a really string age group. Some amazing players, and high character young men. And news flash....game recognizes game. All of these young men have developed a healthy respect (if not friendship) for each other. After 9 to 10 years of battles, it is easy to say "oh, this age group under delivered." Or, "this age group proves you can't buy success." By whose standards? Yours? *** are you? Nobody. Soccer is about the players. Not the clubs. Not the parents. The players. The fact that you have never gotten that, is the reason you are on here making ignorant statements and embarrassing yourself.

This was/IS a great group. The only bad thing was this past year with U19. So many of these teams were made up of 90 to 98% 05's, but because there were a few 04's, they had to play U19. Some clubs like ADF made a strictly 05 team for State Cup. Westside had the #'s to make an 05 and 04, and did it the right way with having both teams in Winter and then both in State Cup. Either way, it was disappointing to not have a true tourney with the teams. Congrats to Westside and OPFC. Both are great teams with great players. Anybody who says differently is just bitter and ignorant.

This is the BB buying success group with the younger TA teams, then the little DA that blew up. Mass player movement between clubs always looking for club or team to propel them to greatness, not realizing that they, and they alone hold the key to greatness.

Yes my family was well aware of all of this. We made decisions based on what our 05 son wanted and was willing to do. Sadly, privates are not exclusive to soccer. It exists in all sports. Whether it is a QB coach for football, or athletic trainer for Speed, Quickness, Agility....for any sport. Shot specialists in basketball...etc. what parents choose to do with their own children is their business. Honestly, so much of the vitriol spewed on here, truly seems to come from a place of insecurity or jealousy.

I did not stay above the noise so much, as I chose to stay focused on my Son. There are both really good coaches and people in youth soccer, and really bad coaches and people in soccer. The same as in school and in life. Soccer is not my Son's life, it is a game he loves to play. The lessons he has learned from playing a team sport will serve him well in life. Both the good and the bad. That should be the takeaway for any parent.

The odds are overwhelming that any of these kids play beyond college. And make no mistake about it, playing in college (AT ANY LEVEL) is success. Everybody stops playing their game of choice at some point. Some choose to stop playing. Others stop playing because nobody will allow them to play any longer. And still you choose negativity. I literally said my Son was an 05. He is a senior. He is signed to play college. He speaks with his college coach weekly. He is following his school's strength and conditioning coach's workout. I suspect he will play, but he will have to earn it. Which is the way it should be.

I have missed these recaps. Really great to gat another one. Thank you Copa Dad. I have always appreciated your recaps and your unbiased (although be it with a slight "homer" ) viewpoint.
