Interesting to look at the winter league schedule.
OYSA has no U18 (05 only) league, just U19 (04/05 combined).
Three clubs are entering 05 only teams: Rogue Valley, ADF, Bend.
The following are entering 04 teams, which I assume will have 05s well because these teams aren't entering 05 teams in premier gold: Eugene, OPFC, OVF, Santos, FC Portland, Capitol, UPDX.
And Westside is entering one of each.

For what it's worth, FH, the former FCSC GK, decided to forego soccer and turned to football. He redshirted last year at PSU, as a kicker. That kid had a heck of a leg and was pretty good between the pipes too.Originally posted by Guest View PostComment

It's Friday the 13th, so it must be time for winter league action to start.
* We've a combined 04/05 league in OYSA, only one league game (premier gold) this weekend. WSM 04s face Capitol.
* Three local teams are playing in USYS Northwest Conference tournament this weekend (05 age group), along with a team from Alaska and some outfit from Montana called "Montana Surf". Somebody ought to check a map. Winner punches a ticket to Regionals in Boise. The three local 05 teams are Bend, WSM 05 Copa Red, and FC Portland 05 Navy.
* UPDX 05s have BECNL action again this weekend, travelling to Seattle to take on Seattle United.
* Three local players were honored by a scouting platform (ProScore) for their performance in USYS National League PRO event last month in Florida. OS and AB from OPFC 05s (in the U19 division) and CJ from WSM 05 Copa Red (in the U18 division) all named to the scouting platform's Best XI. Eligibility for this was limited to athletes who have registered with ProScore, and I've no idea how the lists were formed, but kudos to local players doing well against national competition.
Speaking of which, OYSA/USYS (mainly USYS) probably should, if we're not going to have age groups aligned with the school year, scrap U18. Just have a U19 group, for all 05s and any 04s whose high school class hasn't graduated yet. One thing that ECNL gets right.Comment

I forgot OPFC. Last weekend they kicked the crap out of Valor SC, a third-tier Seattle-area club, by two touchdowns. This is the USYS "Elite 64" platform... but some of the teams in the local leagues aren't elite. Someone earlier was remarking that OPFC quit the "Elite Academy League" last year because it was a joke, but it looks like a few of the other teams from EAL did the same thing, and here we are.
Given the ridiculous state of travel soccer in this country, with everyone trying to join some travel league or another to get a leg up on the competition, I won't flame OPFC for this. They certainly didn't play down to the level of the competition, and the E64 national events produce some good games (but generally require long airplane flights and expensive hotel stays). But the local games.... ugh.
This weekend, they're doing the USYS NW Conference "Club vs Club" (Bend, WSM, and FC are in "Team vs Team"), along with UPDX 04s (just 04s? Or a combined team? 05s are in Seattle that weekend...). Looks like three more palookas lined up.Comment

Hilarious- if that is top XI it tells you how bad the player pool was as a whole. The 05s were hit hard when Oregon changed from players playing school year to age like everyone one else in the US did few tears before. Oregon waited for the last possible year to change it. It affected the DA which we may have enough for two teams at 05 level before shutting down. With all that said, if we have better coaching I think the kids could do better but the coaches are taking the money for the clubs and could care less about our players. There are few good coaches out there but not enough.Comment
