        05 Boys Player Rankings

After watching hours of game film on HUDL, attending many league matches this fall, and assembling a vast database of every touch, run, and off-the-ball maneuver, I have come up with a complete set of player rankings for the 05 Oregon DA League:

In order, and without regard to position:

        1) My kid
        2-5) My kid's friends
6-11) Other starters on my kid's team
        12-18) My kid's team's bench
        19-107) Players on other teams
        108) Your Kid.

No. Just no. Save the lame snack talk for when games resume.

If you don't know then you aren't the parent of an 05 boy.

Heard there were some indoor antics last night. Anything tasty?

Definitely not the food at TIS...

Thing was won by a team called "Frankfurt", not sure of their club affiliation, if any. (Many of the teams playing were ad-hoc teams that aren't affiliated with any outdoor club, and pulling players from several different clubs and teams).

There were two groups in round-robin play. In group A was "Frankfurt", "Mexico 05" (wearing el Tri jerseys), "RazzleDazzle" (a girls team), and ADF 06. In group B was "Mexico" (no 05, wearing Barca jerseys), Westside, and "Real Futsal", consisting of several TA players (BB, YER, RTR, JBC, and BR), and a few others.

Frankfurt and ADF06 tied at the top of Group A, going 2-1-0 (tying each other). Frankfurt won the group on points, ADF second. RazzleDazzle beat Mexico 05 for third--the girls played well and were quite technically sound, but beating boys' teams on age is a tall order even for a top girls team. Mexico 05 finished last and were eliminated.

In Group B, Real Futsal and Westside took turns beating on Mexico, and then the final group game was a Copa lovefest which WT took 5-3. All three teams advanced with Westside winning the group.

In the quarterfinals, ADF06 and Mexico tied 2-2 and went to a shootout, which Mexico won. Real Futsal then took care of RazzleDazzle in the other quarter. Westside and Frankfurt, the group winners, had byes in the quarterfinal rounds.

In the semis, Mexico avenged their earlier defeat to Westside, knocking them off 3-1. Frankfurt then whipped Real Futsal in the other semi like PacNW does to 05 TA in outdoor :), and blew out Mexico in the final.

                        Thoughts:
                        * Five of the seven teams were really good, and the girls' team was skill-wise a match for any of the boys' sides; but gave up too much physically. Only one team (Mexico 05) was in over their heads.
                        * Frankfurt was the class of the tournament, going undefeated and winning the thing. Other than their tie vs ADF, all their victories were by lopsided margins.
                        * ADF06 was also excellent, also going undefeated in regular time (and the only team to claim a point from Frankfurt), losing a heartbreaker to Mexico to in the quarters. (The shootout format of indoor soccer may have been new to them; it's NOT kicks from the penalty mark, but more like a hockey shootout).
                        * Mexico wasn't the most talented team in the tournament, but made some fine coaching adjustments, turning a 4-1 defeat to Westside in group play into a 3-1 victory. They finished last in their group but wound up in the finals. Like the Mexican national team did to Germany in the World Cup, gave an excellent demonstration of defend-and-counter.
                        * Westside dominated their first two games but fell flat in the semis, thrice being caught with their pants down on counter-attacks despite having most of the possession. (There's no offside in indoor soccer, guys...). Some of the finishing difficulties that have plagued them early in the outdoor season returned in the semifinal match, as they decorated the goal frame with shots, but only once were able to score, and that was a point-blank shot from inside the box. A disappointing finish.
                        * Real Futsal was also a disappointment, losing two matches despite having four of the top players in the state on their roster. Looked a bit overconfident at times, as though they thought they could turn it on at will.

                            none

Real Futsal, was the best team on paper, but their ego got their heads.

Frankfurt was a team made of 06 TA players.

You sure? Frankfurt walked all over everyone. Not sure those were 06s.
