Well played game by both sides. Very physical, but very fun to watch. Was tied 1-1 for about 50min.

You are obviously from FC Portland, because the game was totally out of control in your favor. Several of your boys were pushing, shoving and grabbing all game long. I was glad to see when the referee finally pulled out his yellow card on the big forward who is pushing everyone down! I cannot believe that you think it was good soccer. I agree, your boys have some good moves for MMA, but give me a break, this is 12 year old soccer!

Really sad to see some twelve year old kids spending an entire weekend day in a car to play five or six minutes. And for what?
This team is already plagued with burn out, dropping grades, lack of sleep, concussions, and negative coaching. Hope none of these fine young boys quit the sport.

Sounds just like FC! Instead of playing skilled soccer, they overcompensate with physicality. They do a good job of taking it too far, but not completely over the top. They have been trained in how to play dirty, but legal. People don't know what to do with that. Especially with the brut up top. Gotta give it to them for being so crafty. At some point the other teams are going to need to learn how to be more physical. On the flip side, they are 12 and hurting people (as their big guy does often) should not be such common practice.

Dropping grades, lack of sleep, et al. How do you know personal business about twelve-year- old kids?

FYI-a lot of kids quit all sorts of sports as they get older. Some change sports, some get burnt out, some can't carry both school and sports, some get into personal trouble, some have family issues, some aren't burnt out but want to try other things, and some parents don't want to invest this much time (and sometimes money)-especially if they have other kids.

No matter what, all kids are fine, but not all continue on in this sport, for a multitude of reasons.

Suffering grades has been a problem of many TA players for years. A lot of top players drop out of the Academy in high school in order to keep up academically. That’s no secret.
The number one reason kids quit a sport is because it stops being fun. Four nights a week in a high pressure environment with a negative coach when your only twelve might not be fun for some. The second top reason kids quit sports is too much time on the bench. It’s not fun to always be the kid who only gets thirteen minutes at the end of the game. TA has a high turnover for this reason. A lot of players realize after a few months that their only value to the patch is to be a training cone at practices for the starters. TA needs to rethink the overall developmental training model for these younger players. Tossing a boy in for five minutes at the end of a match after he spent his whole day getting there is insulting and a blow to his self esteem. That doesn’t build a player up and it certainly isn’t developing the player.

Predictions.

As someone noted earlier, I misread the schedule--there are local DA games this weekend.

DA:

* CFC 2, FC 2. Both teams are harder to predict, having rosters that change quite a bit (due to players playing for the 04 team). Both teams have good results last weekend (CFC in a loss).

Actual: FC 2, CFC 1. Two of the more physical sides go at it. Result: Into the upper 90.

Crossfire 6, Eastside 1. Last time it was 10-0, since than Eastside has improved.

Actual: Crossfire 7, Eastside 0. Still improvement, not as much. Result: Into the upper 90.

* WashT 5, BSC 2. Washington Timbers continue their undefeated streak.

Actual: WashT 4-0. After a good showing last week, BSC gets run over. Result: Off the post, and in.

OYSA:

ADF 7, Red2 0. Assuming that whatever happened last weekend to ADF was a fluke.

Actual: ADF 9-1. ADF returns to form. Result: Into the upper 90.

ETFC 3, RVT 2. Last time it was a 0-0 tie; but both teams are too offensively talented for that to happen twice.

Actual: ETFC 3, RVT 2. Eugene is quietly moving up the charts. Result: Chipped the keeper from 40 yards, back of the net.

4H 4 HSC 2. More technical 4H team outplays the bigger and stronger Hillsboro team.

Actual: HSC 4, 4H 1. Hillsboro pulls off the upset. Result. Six yards wide of the post, clobbers a ballboy.

Cuervos 7, Copa 0. Don't worry, Copa--you finally get games against Navy and Red2 in November.

Actual: Cuervos 7, Copa 0. Sigh. Result: Chipped the keeper from 40 yards, back of the net.

ADF 3, ETFC 2. See above.

Actual: ETFC 3, ADF 1. If ADF has a weakness, it's dealing with teams with fast forwards. Result: Three yards wide of the post.

Bend 2, RVT 1. Rogue Valley has a nasty weekend coming up

Actual: Bend 4, RVT 4. Who will win the race to be the best non-DA Timbers affiliate? Result: Three yards wide of the post.

FCSC 5, Navy 2. FC teams hate playing on grass, and the nastiest, slowest swamp in youth soccer this side of Poowerlines is Felidia Park.

Actual: FCSC 3, Navy 1. Navy comes down to earth after last weekend's upset of ADF.
