You are right, he is not an upper echelon kid, but his dad is paying for the coaches salary and the cost for this team so he is on the team de facto or said parent will not pay. Integrity of the entire academy is once again compromised. And this happens at every level in the Timbers organization. The pyramid is getting old, they have proven time and time again they are only worried about the bottom line not giving the best kids development opportunities- results show this - for those of you who wonder why that would be is because they know the odds. They know that any time that they can get a crazy dad that will pay for an entire year of cost they save money and don't have to pay for the charade on their own. The one and only homegrown who is now playing for the Timbers might be the only one for the next 20 years odds say. If every parent and coach is being honest there is not a single 05 in this entire market, including my son, who jumps off the page and glares professional. In the next couple years that may turn out to be the case, but those of you professing to know the future are fools...

You aren't going to change it by getting on some anonymous forum to complain. Spend your time making money and not here. Maybe then you won't complain so much about someone you know nothing about. It makes you look jealous and tactless. It's shameful to see adults shredding a 12 year old, without having a clue as to what's really going on. Worry about your own child and you let him worry about his. The universe will sort it out in the long run.
Stop deflecting , his son is out of his element and does not deserve technically or tactically the opportunity being given and his dad and the Timbers have once again shown that the bottom line drives decisions. If they are going to spew the pyramid and elevator then have some integrity and actually take the best players and promote the model instead of allowing a rich parent to compromise the system? Would love to hear the excuse from a Timbers employee why they would allow their integrity and brand to be compromised for around 75k - nothing more nothing less.

Maybe your number is waaaaay off. In which case it would be much more and people would do backflips for it.

If the 05 team is going to cost more than that then it's an even bigger waste than I thought. Even at the number I threw out it was a complete sham. But if you got someone willing to pay the freight so his son can play on the team then why not right? because the "Timbers Academy" is supposed to be unbiased and unfettered of bribery and misgivings for the most able and talented not who has an ego and will stroke a check. The Timbers have once again lost sight of what their teams are supposed to be about and have allowed greed and dollars to completely compromise the entire structure. Why Merrit would allow this horsetrading to tarnish his brand is beyond comprehension....

No one is bullying the . Just pointing out daddy and the Timbers are in bed together. In no way is this misfit cast of characters the best players in the area- which is what the Timbers espouse their academy teams to be. It's nothing more than the players that the son wants (via daddy and personally paid coach) and some talented players that seem to have this uncontrollable image desire to say they play on this team and whose parents fell for the billups circus because they will go to Stanford of cal or be pro if they play for this carnival team

Not in the least bit, just tired of having this horsesh!t structure shoved down everyone's throats in this market. In every other market there is an alternative and some integrity in the process. When a monopoly exists and the lemmings will stab each other in the back purely to say they are a part of something it creates what we now have. When you add the fact that the selection process is corrupt and bought, it creates an underachieving joke of an academy...the longer this continues in its present form the worse it will get for all. Would like to know how all the players feel about billups kid (come October) taking their playing time and or time that one of their old teammates deserved. Those bus rides may get tense and splinter the group

So bitter and jealous. Can we just start calling you Bitter Betty? How do you know the intricacies of other markets? Oh wait, you don't. You made that up, just like you made up 90 percent of what you post. Full of assumptions and individual theories. This stuff is everywhere. Money matters. Sorry.

This thread has a Timbers group that have a tendency to get hyper defensive when challenged on their ethics and business practices We moved here from a market that more than one option and my older children were a part of the academy structure . competition for the academy level players created checks and balances and if one organization was doing this type of shady stuff the ethical parents of talented players would go to the other option and guess what happened to the club that was crooked- they underperformed and kids began to leave until that club cleaned house and changed the way they operated. And here is just one example that you say I have no clue about, Seattle, our closest "other market"

has 2 true "academy" options that compete all the way through u18 actually- the Sounders and Crossfire Premier. Should I continue????

So in words you can understand- so wait I did not make that up and i really do know what I am talking about and for the last time I am not jealous of anything Timbers bro

Unfortunately this is the way it has been since my son started showing interest in the Academy. He is a few years older but it sounds the same. Certain kids make the academy that everyone knows don't deserve it, either they train with the right coach or their dad is involved in the process (money or the good old boys club). A lot of the boys that should be on the academy don't even try out. The academy teams are not very good, my son's team beat them this year. This is the same with choosing teams from the ODP pool.

Hi, not the person who has been abusing you...but I want in on this. Please do everyone a favor and take you and your no-morals, sketchy ass off of here. Unless you. Are either BB, a coach assoicated with the team, or a parent whose child is being subsidized, there is no way in hell you could argue against the majority on this. I know the BB situation very well. As do many others on here. There is a reason people are outraged. Have you stopped to really read the comments? Sure, people are saying that the DS is not all that talented, (which is very true) but the biggest complaint is about the lack of ethics and the Timbers signing off on this. Wake up, do not give me som Gordon Gecko "greed is good" BS. This is about the game. And irregardless if there is any 05 who will ever be talented enough to make MLS, the concept, the very basis of the Timbers youth program has been exposed as a sham. People have a right to be outraged, and quite honestly you should be as well.

What has is a loss for youth soccer in PDX. The lesson that is being taught to all of these young men is that rules only apply to certain people, some of the time. That is not what I, as a parent want for my Son, or for anybody else's for that matter.

                                Timbers DA

It would be nice to see some of the better 05 DA teams play against the 05 Timbers DA!
I think that would be proof as to whether or not the most talented boys were selected.
