Do we need another ODP thread? That corpse has been collecting flies for a long time. Time to bury it.

Disappointed!
Per Timbers literature" The Portland Timbers Olympic Development Program is a program designed to identify the top youth players in the state of Oregon and Southwest Washington."
My players wants to strive to make and be identified as one of the top youth players in the state.
However excitement wanes when lists came out.
The Portland North 03 Girls RTC named 47 players to the pool and then name 18 second look player. This does not take into account the players that will be named to Willamette, Central Oregon, Bend and Southern Oregon RTC.
Someone please tell me how that many players can be identified as being top youth players in the state of Oregon? I am missing something or is this a money grab? To me it seems like the Timbers took about 75% of the kids that showed up for tryouts. Nothing about this seems top or elite to me or my daughter.
Feeling disappointed and frustrated with a program that in it own words says "The principal Portland Timbers OYSA ODP mission is to identify, evaluate, and provide more consistent training opportunities for the elite youth soccer players in Oregon".
If Elite by definition means kids from B and C teams, Timbers hit the nail on the head. Feeling like it's a waste of time for the kids that are elite and want to grow and be trained with other quality players.

Judging by your response, I am assuming the ODP team has already been set even though RTC was just selected. Pay attention...this is how it works. It has already been decided how many players will come from each region. Gotta keep everyone believing they have a chance down in Medford, Salem, Eugene, and Bend. That's some good cash. We can't have too many from one club, especially if they are not TA clubs, TA is the pathway to the top of the pyramid. Follow this up with a pep rally, incomprehensible phrases, and pictures of Messi. Throw in a little parental insecurity and there you have it...money for nothing but the soccer's not free.
