Cheating or Collusion or Unethical Play

Call it what you want but the u18 girls USYS National Championship "game" is an embarrassment. Do any of these clubs have an ounce of ethics?

Nobody cares. The game ended in a draw just like a lot if soccer games.

ESPN cared enough to report on it. And the clubs who were fined probably care.

Investigation found no evidence of collusion between the two teams. Both just played to tie. No big deal.

No effort given. Walking around. Only teams that care are the other teams that get shorted an opportunity to play in next round.

It's like the fake injuries and time wasting at end of games. Maybe not specifically against the rules but it is poor sportsmanship. Play the game.

Isn't this the same "championship" Onyx won? Puts it all in perspective.

Other teams should have played better. Nothing but sour grapes.

Neither team played the final. They just held the ball. If it would have been the first group game instead of the last, they would've played.

I hope those clubs discipline the coaches. Stuff like this is bad for the game.

Correction: neither team played the game.

Always good to have ESPN report on your soccer club. Oh wait, ESPN was reporting that they were not very ethical in their behavior? That's not so good.

All of you saying it's no big deal should watch the video ESPN W posted. It's an embarrassment. It's one thing to play a slow down game to conserve energy. That is not what this was. Watch the video before weighing in.

That's bad. Could you imagine being the team that got bumped because of this? Spending $800 per kid to have a mockery of the game bounce you.

All the teams that didn't advance had to do was win a couple of games. They didn't and then they whine and complain when 2 other teams score more points than they do. Blame the system and how it determines who advances if you want but those 2 teams did exactly what they should have done to ensure they advanced. Take zero chances and play for a draw. Anything else would have been stupid.

Might want to read the whole story and not just ESPN's sensational take on something they don't understand. These teams did EXACTLY what they should have done in the circumstances.
