Given that the weather and the latitude (65 degrees north, just one degree south of the Arctic Circle) makes outdoor sports problematic in the winter--one way Iceland has dealt with this is lots of indoor soccer--both small-sided indoor games (not sure if futsal or other indoor codes), and a large number of domes.
But the evil gummint is paying for a lot of this--Iceland decided it wanted to build a national soccer apparatus, and has spent lots of tax $$$ doing so.
Not sure we in the US can get political support for that. OTOH, more futsal, especially in the winter, is probably a good thing.Comment

As an Englishman living and loving the game this is just one of the worst feelings I have ever felt.
You can blame the coach for some of his subs and tactics but those guys on the pitch are all to a man better then the Icelanders.
Difference is one was a team and the other a bunch of highly paid pretty boys.
