As someone who had children who were ODP players on teams full of ODP players, it was problematic in many ways when the kids had to miss club team trainings at the last minute for ODP and then go to tournaments, regional camp, and hold-over camps. We had players in our club who also made the national pools who always missed Thanksgiving with their families because they were at the national camp in Florida. This meant missing showcases with the club teams.
Our club has always been supportive of these players because they know that soccer guides the child in choosing their own personal path moving forward.
People loose sight of the intention behind ODP (Olympic Development Program) and now the Timbers Development Academy. One was meant to develop future Olympic team members and the other to develop elite "homegrown players' to feed into to ODP program.
I honestly believe that the DA is the means for the MLS to get to youth players at the age 12 level to protect themselves from having to pay out training fees and solidarity payments should they sign players to professional contracts and transfer players.
It gets complicated but here is an article that gives an idea as to why the Timbers (as an edict from the MLS) have become so active in the youth soccer movement:

FC Dallas has 9 homegrown a
Philly has 7
There are a lot of MLS Clubs that have 4-6. Most of these clubs have been around for almost 20 years.
You have to be a believe in the long term development model to enjoy the ever changing landscape. It's only a matter of time before we are able to train the American football/basketball mentality and actually start to get better at teaching the game. Parents cut checks so they think they should make decisions as to how coaches should teach the game.

Back to the falsehoods in the Thorns marketing materials - a whole bunch of clubs in this state reject the Thorns Academy as the best place for their best HS players. Apparently some alliance families do as well.

You aren't an alliance coach? Guess you are true believer; I am not and false advertising doesn't help.
