My daughter used to do ODP. A couple years ago at the Freindship Cup the Region IV evaluator was there. He used to coach at U of Idaho. I noticed him talking to my daughter after one of the games. I spoke to him later and we discussed what he told her along with her potential for college and how he saw her capabilities. At the end he gave me his card and told me to tell her to use him as a reference for colleges. He saw her play maybe three times that weekend and didn't know me from Adam before that. But he told me she shouldn't settle for lower D1. I know I'm an outlier but there are positives to ODP and the Friendship Cup. Yes ECNL has mad it much much less relevant, but I do think there are positives to be had.

Agree totally with this. And really what negatives could there be. Kids get seen by a wider base of coaches, more touches, some very good talent.

i coach at a portland club in this age group and have two players on the squad. they're not even the best players on the team, the talent level is pretty good.

so... basically when we should maybe start caring about how the development is coming along, joker. (the other guy. thanks for doing the math for him)

just based off the scores, here's a (factual) recap of the rest of the boys side.

u11 boys: our best timbers team did okay except against washington. Washington seemed to be the best. 8 teams played

U12 boys: 14 teams; poor san mateo cty earthquakes 2, 5 games 5 losses; Diablo FC DA did best 3 wins one draw (against Timbers best team).

u13 boys: whichever team the refs have listed as PTG 03B (boys) went 3-0-0 and beat Cal North. that ain't bad.

u14b: washington went undefeated, timbers mid pack.

u15b: seattle undefeated, timbers mid pack

u16b: portland timbers (playing up) and san jose go undefeated.

u17b: seattle tops group, only one game played. (everyone playing up basically)

u18b: three teams, timbers alliance tied for 1st.

2003s are currently 12 & 13 yr olds. Prime age for parent obsession over their little player who will be "the one in a million, one in 20yrs in Oregon" soccer star. Reality hasn't reared its ugly head yet.

This post was so utterly stupid I honestly can't believe it. Evaluating an athlete in a stressful competitive environment? Who would dare? Maybe you don't realize this because your kid has never made it but the majority or REGION IV staff will be evaluating players in an environment where results matter at regional camp. Smh

The only results that matter at regional camp are individual and have nothing to do with team results. Obviously YOUR child has never made it or you would understand how individual it really is. Obsess away.

I think some of the Thorns ODP girls played down a year or so. They were so huge that
some of them could have shaved. :)

I always love the comments from parents about how big the players on the other team are. It's so predictable. Common sense goes out the window when mommy goes to watch her kids play. She forgets that from age 8-18 kids grow at vastly different rates. I've seen U11 girls who were 5'6" and weighed 130. "Look at her birth certificate, she's at least a year older." So funny.
