    Disaster! Disaster!

    THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!

Haven't we been hearing this for years?

If there is any club in trouble financially in Clark County it would have to be Salmon Creek ...

Building indoor fields, both futsal and turf, will solve the winter cash flow issue.

It used to be a dream.
Now it's a reality. When you can raise $1.4 million in 15 months you are able to do these things

Maybe this will open the doors to recruit some high profile coaches. What is all the bells and whistles without talent coaching.

Must be a Salmon Creek parent. Sour grapes?

They are trying. The coaching staff has grown a ton in the last two years.

"This county-owned property is leased to the Harmony Sports Association, which manages operations of the site. The property features multiple youth sports fields, which are used by Cascade Little League and the Washington (formerly VUSA) Timbers."

So while the Washington Timbers essentially get exclusive use of the soccer fields (and CLL gets to use the baseball diamonds), and is helping fund capital improvements to the property, Harmony remains owned by the government of Clark County.

An interesting question--could a competing soccer club (rec or competitive) based in Clark County demand equal access to the facility? A few years ago, there was a brouhaha when Westside Timbers (then Westside Metros) was essentially given exclusive access to THPRD facilities--then THUSC and AUSC (both of which are located within the THPRD boundaries) complained, and now are also given access to THPRD fields? Unlike with Harmony, THPRD operates the fields directly (rather than leasing them to an opco), so the legal status might be different--but parents at Pacific or FCSC might have a beef if their tax dollars are subsidizing the operations of a rival club.
Not how it happened at THPRD Rec Center.

First of all, THUSC was there first as Westside was created when a group of parents broke away and formed a new club. Then you had the two clubs sharing fields. They worked together with THPRD to invest money to convert field 1 to turf and install lights. The same thing happened for field 2. They both had leases but it didn't mean "exclusive" use. The two clubs had time-blocks for those fields and even shared same fields for training, but they had limited use as fields also had to be shared with youth football, OYSA ODP, some rec and high school soccer, and adult leagues. Lacrosse rentals followed.

FC Portland, Bridlemile, Bernie Fagen's OSA, Aloha and NEU have all at some point wanted to lease time at THPRD. A mis-informed reporter got it all wrong when he did not check into the timeline and lease contract terms. If he had, he would have realized he was dealing with "alternative facts" provided by another club.

Dig a little deeper and you'll find that many of those coaches "had" those licenses at one time but don't have them anymore. And the Euro licenses mean nothing, they're a dime a dozen over there.

I can tell you in the last C license course thats still going on, they had 5 coaches attend, which was far more than any other club in the area, so at least their coaches are continuing to try to improve. Regardless if you respect license or not, at least they are making the effort.

Can you be a licensed coach if you never played the game before?

To judge a coach based on his playing experience is ridiculous. Players often make some of the worst coaches (as proven in some of the major league sports out there). Does having playing experience give you an advantage in coaching, Yes. But that doesnt mean someone who hasn't played can't work hard and learn enough to be a quality coach.

Now as this relates to WA timbers, not sure what to tell you. Looking at their coaching list of Reds teams this last year I'm pretty sure everyone of them played soccer in their lifetimes. And if theres 1 or 2 that got into soccer later on in life, those would be outliers.

but the answer to this question is yes. it has been said that USSF actually judges if you can play (at the time of your class) AND if you can coach, but idk. I can play, so that never came up.

Actually they changed that policy. Its not longer required if you can play or not, its judged fully on your soccer knowledge and how you can communicate with the players to develop and train them.
