our club has a strict policy with regards to each team having a periodization calendar.
When tryouts are over we can't start until the middle of June.
We are required to give 5 weeks off sometime between middle of June to end of Fall Season (November 10th)

there are "set weeks" where the club is shut down (except for maybe a few HS teams that might be prepping for a showcase). During those shut down times the DOC sets up coaching education. No rest for the coaches :) They get to learn during the down times.

Absolutely. Rest is good both physically and mentally. Nothing wrong with kicking the ball around with friends, etc. and older players/high level players should work on fitness all summer. But take it easy if you can. most of our kids won't be playing D1. They're out of the house before you know it so enjoy the summer

Even D1 colleges recommend players to take a month off and heal. As long as the player remains fit.

If you're not training someone else is. Breaks are for the weak.

              Nice try.

He always tells us, "Go ahead and be with your family. Have a good time."

Always someone out here trying to create hatred.

              Tryouts are over.

Leave it be and leave these clubs alone. Enjoy your summer folks.

Certainly don't sit on the couch for a month - do fitness work, practices moves in the yard, etc. But there's more benefit to taking it easy for a few weeks then playing hard with an over-taxed body for the same amount of time.

we know a kid who took a year off from club ( I consider their team rec) soccer and only played school soccer. His skilled deteriorate over the year. I think a year is too long from club.

I said as long as you stay fit. The body needs to heal and by the end of a season everyone is nursing some form of injury or overuse. Time off is good.

I like what this person said below. Seems reasonable. I don't think our club even thinks about periodizing the year

Sounds great until you add in ODP, USSF training, etc. Just because your club stops doesn't mean these other programs do. Do you pass up on those ops??

That question applies to less than 1%, which is exactly why the other 99% should take the time off. Life is short. Enjoy it.
