How bad is it in the Timbers Alliance?

8 clubs and they can't form as many girls HS teams as the 3 ECNL clubs THUSC/Crossfire/FCP. And their "A" teams are barely competitive with those 3 club's "B" teams in OYSA.

    That's bad...

And getting worse with the birth year changes. Those 3 clubs are seeing record numbers of girls registering for tryouts this year - many coming from TA clubs.

It may be underwater but it's more popular in these parts than boys soccer.

        ummmmmmm...
my DD plays for an Alliance Club that tells it's parents up front that they are trying to develop each individual player to play at the next level whether it be ECNL, the Thorns Academy or the Timbers DA. Is that bad that my club says that? Does that make them worse than your club? From what I know my DD's club constantly is sending players to the highest level of play from U15 and on. I think it's a great thing and I know that the ECNL, Thorns and Timbers DA are happy that my DD's club sends it's top players across the river.

Your club HAS to send players across the river because you can't figure out how to hire top coaches and provide proper development for your top players. Columbia Timbers used to have a very strong girls program. Now it's barely rec-level after U12.

            #s might not matter.

Be careful here when it comes to what comes out of high school programs. I know of one program that's girls are doing quite well for themselves.

Only in the minds of the Oregon TS crazy girl parents. It's a sickness. Inexplicable really. But obviously, to those not stricken by the sickness, men's soccer is plenty popular in these parts. Or maybe it's as simple as taking off the blinders.

                wrong again.
the Columbia Timber days didn't see options like ECNL and Thorns.

now you have those options. It's a brilliant move by Vantucky. Prepare kids to play the next level, it's simple. So while your ECNL club in Portland plays to win early on, Vantucky will develop your players and hand them off.
Funny thing is when you talk about coaches at the older age groups you can't tell me that the coaches at CU and FCPDX from U14 and up are quality? They are recycled, old school and outdated coaches. You can tell by the results and I've seen it first hand.

Blinders? I think the NFL draft viewership just blew away TV's turned on during entire MLS season. Men's soccer still not a mainstream sport in USA. But a big deal in Portlandia.

For some reason, the NFL draft seems to get more media attention than the NBA and NHL Playoffs....

It will get better with the girls academy. Just think, it will siphon off the few good players they have left. OYSA becomes a glorified rec league.

ECNL will raise prices even more!

Odd that a thread is started on T/S to hammer on Alliance clubs yet the 'anti-alliance' crowd never posts on it? It's almost like the non-alliance clubs, parents, coaches, DOC's, etc. could give two sh$ts about the alliance.

It's because the ECNL teams are too busy bashing each other to try to stem defections. That and they are too busy traveling to TA practices to recruit players.
