FC Portland has try outs during state cup

Does this mean they will be banned from OYSA? Seems very unfair. They are selecting their "reserve" team for OYSA. If OYSA allies this it will be a free for all next year with tryouts.

    Pretty clear violation.

FC is selecting players for their ECNL "pools", nothing more. CU is doing the same thing. All players selected will be added to ECNL rosters when those open up for changes in late July. Just like in past years, some ECNL pool players will play some games on "B" teams (sometimes named ECNL Reserve, sometimes Navy) playing in OYSA. Who those players are is decided on a week by week basis over the course of the year.

Tryouts for the main "state pool" of players that will play in OYSA is well after the Timbers mandated tryout date.

Must be coincidental that all of these anti-FCP posts come out every year about this time. Lot of fear of losing players to FCP out there in Timbers land.

No, it's not the Timbers, it's CU. Nice try CU coach however. Blame it on someone else. That crappy ECNL program over there is dying and losing players so doing anything to keep player movement down. Tom and his minions have no shame.

              I disagree.

I think it's telling FCP players to try out ahead of time and if you make the ECNL team, great! Otherwise, you'll be on the Reserve team, else the regular tryout team.-Of course, it will have to become official during the tryout process. This wqy, FCP can make way for players from other clubs without creating harm from within their own club.

Interesting on the WT boys' DA side that they show the DA tryouts happening during their regular tryouts.

I wonder if this will be the procedure for any future GDA tryouts as opposed to ECNL tryouts?

So the "reserve pool" is being picked now and will play in OYSA?

If OYSA allows this it will be a free for all next year. The rules are establish to create fairness. This clearly is a move to circumvent that.

                  Doesn't seem fair.

They are having try outs now? I thought OYSA didn't allow that?

Any team that is having a pre-tryout clinic is having a tryout. You don't win the lawsuit by calling it something else.

Lots of clubs hold pre-tryout clinics

Generally, if it's a free clinic that anyone can attend (not just players registered for tryout), and which isn't used in picking teams, it's probably not in violation of OYSA rules. Lots of clubs do this, so if this is illegal, there won't be an OYSA as it won't have any teams.

If you think you have a case that a local soccer club is violating the rules, then take it up with OYSA; here is not the forum to adjudicate such matters. (And there's a good chance that no court will touch this either--OYSA probably has pretty broad discretion to administer its rules; a lawsuit trying to force OYSA to eject a rival club from fall/spring league because of tryout dates is likely to be laughed out of court; not that anyone here would bother to file one...)

There will be no "future GDA" tryouts in the NW. Ain't happening.

This is not a legal matter. However it is very relevant for OYSA. Next year you will have every club in the metro area doing their own version of this earlier and earlier.

There is no separate "reserve pool". Those being selected now will be rostered to the ECNL teams. That they might also play in OYSA from time to time is irrelevant; all clubs move players around from team to team over the course of the season, if they actually have more than 1 team of course.
