    yep.

bend has to house the craziest damn parents in the Northwest.

Those whackos actually think a second club is the way to go. You can scratch Bend players off of your list for a long while. This will set Bend soccer back at least 7 years with this mistake.

You have to have competition to keep the Timbers honest (or at least kinda honest)

you mean your child didn't make the "A" team so you had to start your own club so your child can now play for an "A" team.

you guys are idiots over there!

you don't have the resources to do what you're trying to do.

Does this have something to do with the the U17 girls' team that forfeited their state cup games?

Just like Portland metro with 25 clubs claiming to be "premier" when there aren't more than 5 or 6

              Sometimes options help?

Not all coaches see the same things or agree on the player opportunities. With all of the soccer clubs (not named timbers) in the Portland area, it would seemed to reason that the coaches wanted to run a club differently. Competition can be a good thing.

Really it's about money for the coaches. Tell parents that their kid is "premier" level and they will pay a lot more than for "rec" level, even if it's not true. And coaches have families to feed too. So we end up with way too many clubs charging 6th division kids top dollar because they are on the "A" team at a 1 team club.

I chuckled when I read that.

Do wonder if the youth soccer ecosystem is healthier if it preserves some space for independent clubs to be successful. MLS - with the Timbers absolutely at the forefront - sure seems keen on building alliances/affiliates with youth soccer clubs; fine if those clubs think that is right thing to do, but honestly cheer a little bit for the little guys putting their own stamp on things.

Of course the "Rush" in the name calls itself the largest youth soccer club in the world, so not exactly small potatoes backing them up.

Just please don't mess with the Bend Tournament - that is a fun one!!

Bend is a big town--it's got a population similar to that of Beaverton.

The greater Bend area has a population of over 160k.

If Beaverton can support Westside plus THUSC plus HSC plus various chunks of FCP and Aloha, I think that Deschutes County can support some competition for the Bend FC Timbers.

Now if they can just find a better pitch to play on than Morning Star.... it's the Harmony parking lot of soccer fields, with a freeway on one sideline and a railroad track on the other....

BSC, not HSC. Too many dang acronyms....

Doesn't seem to be the case though. At most ages, Bend Timbers can't even form more than 1 team.

Does this mean that the McCool brothers would leave THUSC/CU and go back to Bend?

I've seen some good rec teams from Bend

I've seen a few good rec teams coming from the Bend area--perhaps an issue of economics? Differing demographics (less support for soccer vs other sports)?

                              The travel

One other thought on classic soccer in Central Oregon.

If you play for a classic team in Portland or in the valley, most of your games are local, or a day trip at worst.

If you play for Bend FC Timbers, every road game in spring/fall leagues is a travel game--there aren't any away games in Deschutes County. Instead, it's a trip to Portland (or its 'burbs) or Woodburn or Salem or Corvallis or Eugene or Medford; generally a three-hour drive each way. And often two games/weekend, which means it will involve an overnight stay, rather than just a there-and-back day trip.

                              Same with Rogue Valley.

Playing classic soccer in a distant smaller community is a BIG time commitment. Having a second club in town might help--particularly if OYSA had more regionally-sensitive scheduling.
