I think the DA may be more sustainable for smaller states. States like California, Florida, Texas and the like can have multiple avenues. Oregon truly needs consolidation and it needs to remove some of the influence of dollars. The only problem I have with ECNL is that two ECNL clubs are one too many in Oregon. The talent in most age groups is horribly diluted and there are numerous mediocre players whose parents are able to buy them in. At a minimum in a DA setting this will be somewhat minimized. No matter which arena is triumphant, I feel sorry for all these girls that are caught in another transition similar to my older daughter when the OPL splinted away from OYSA which led to the collapse of ODP prior to their being an alternative. There still isn't an alternative since there is NO consolidation.

Not sure why Oregon parents care so much? The highest place Oregon's top 10% can aspire to is a few years of college ball, if they are lucky - and I'm not talking at top D1 programs. We put like one girl on a national team every 20 or 30 years. We don't really have any super elite players that are effected by any GDAP, whether Oregon gets one or not. It's crazy how delusional so many Oregon girls' parents are. Our girls simply don't make national team rosters. We couldn't even get ONE Oregon girl drafted into the NWSL this year. It wouldn't matter if we consolidated into one GDAP only or had 5 ECNL clubs and 5 GDAP clubs. We would still only produce one elite girl player every couple of decades. It's nice to have dreams but freaking out about something that is never going to happen is ridiculous. Let California worry about the effects of GDAP. None of it matters in Oregon.

The DA will not take off on the girls side simply because they will lose key players that want to play high school.

High school soccer might not be the best quality soccer, but it is a lot of fun. One of the better overall experiences.

Notice kids that played high school soccer are typically pretty close to their teammates for years and years after.

The DA only will take off if they get a bulk of the elite talent. You have non-metro clubs and ECNL that will still get the lion's share of talent because they allow high school. Thus the DA will be a non-starter in Oregon.

DA will be a few top players and a lot of mid-level players.

I feel bad for the older girls (and parents) that got saddled with expensive Oregon ECNL.

How so? It's exactly the same cost as without ECNL, just better competition.

If you live in Oregon and play competitive soccer then you will pay money to travel. I don't care if you play OYSA, OPL, ECNL or the new DA. You will pay some serious cash to get on an airplane and pay for lodging. If you think it is for free then I am guessing you are buying what Bernie is selling

true, it's just that ECNL is the most expensive option. But the DA will be cheaper right out of the chute. and then continue to get cheaper over time. Might want to read the article.

That would bum me out too if I flushed that mush cash down the drain. Glad my daughter is in grade school.

I did read the article and it was not specific as to the details in how they make it cheaper. I am guessing they will reduce fees, but that looks sexy and fees aren't the issue it is travel. If you think someone is picking up your travel cost them -- Bernie 2016

Many girls that are focused on the next level don't play high school soccer after their sophomore year anyway. It is a waste of their time and they risk serious injury playing with a variety of skilled or unskilled players and the risk is not worth the reward. Plus many high school coaches are not good coaches and it is a serious step backwards for those that want to play at the next level. I agree it is fun, but hs soccer does nothing for the development for the soccer player, except maybe derail it. I don't think that having to give up high school is as big an issue as many are making it out to be. I think it is more the parents that have the issues than the kids.

Not being allowed to play high school soccer just may work to drive the elite talent to one spot and get rid of all the filler (those that parents can afford to pay for their status on the team and those looking for play dates). Those elite kids just want to get better and be around the best kids. They will make friends with their new teammates and still have fun.

The top 6-7 HS teams absolutely get looks from colleges as the majority of the players are top Club players too. If you are 1st team all state player in HS, that absolutely helps the cause. Just sayin', the entire portfolio is looked at by these coaches. I have seen college coaches at HS games... but only the top teams. If it's fun too, then that matters.

I did. There are no concrete measures stated for how they will reduce costs. None. Reality is that it will likely be more expensive for the first few years.

The problem is you have to be on one of the top HS teams. There are many top players not on those teams. I agree with you being selected to 1st team all state and adding that to your soccer resume is helpful, but if you get injured during your hs season that can have long term effects. I see more injuries during HS soccer than club.

I also think most of those top club players are not getting their exposure from hs. HS is fun, but I think everyone will adapt to the not playing hs soccer. It will take some time but not playing hs will not be harmful for players development or exposure. the kids may miss out on the experience of school sports and the school spirit, that comes with playing school sports. But who are we kidding, how many students come out to support girls soccer anyway? The sidelines have parents and grandparents and a few of the players bffs or boyfriends. Its not that big a deal.

If your daughter is in grade school you have a lot of opportunities to flush money down the drain still ahead. My daughter is ending her journey and before ECNL it was other things that drained money, like adding ODP, especially travel, to already high club fees and travel. I promise, this will be no different, the DA will not be subsidizing girls, more likely the girls DA will probably help fund the boys DA.
