Oh wait, they did point out that MLS based USDA's on the boys side were cheaper/free. So, where are all these professional woman's teams that will do the same on the girls side???
They mentioned they had big sponsors wanting into youth girls soccer after the women's WC win....

DA teams don't play in OYSA. They play in the DA league. Which means lots of travel for the lone NW club. Good luck with that.

Sure. The sport's so popular they couldn't even get the Olympic qualifier final game on TV. Lots of money just rolling in for women's soccer.

lol that's for sure. Interest peaked this summer then quickly crashed back down to normal - which is practically zero. Big companies like Nike, etc. won't put the money in unless they see the numbers working in their favor. Besides, who wants to pony up big money for an unproven venture?

That's why I'm not even sure there will be one team up this way. Who do they play? Travel down to SoCA for games? If it's going to be an lighter version of ECNL I see the NW getting cut out completely. The focus being around other major metros, NE corridor, TX, FL, Chicago, etc.

Most likely it will be like it is on the non MLS boys teams - about $1000 less on fees, one less tourney to travel to. But if it's a smaller league then game travel will be more extensive than ECNL. However, with fewer games per year you won't often have two games per weekend like ECNL or NPL HS aged teams often have now. US Soccer helps subsidize travel for national events but families still pay a portion.

So, do you give up HS soccer, go for that marginal cost savings in exchange for an unproven venture, and still end up playing in college like you can in ECNL? I know for my U14 girl there's no way that happens (her sister is graduating this year :)). Girls younger than her will face a tougher choice because there will likely be several years of uncertainty as both sides duke it out.

That's what they'll have to do to reduce travel costs. Either that or rename OYSA Premier as "USSDA" and leave Eugene, Bend, and Medford out of it :)

Those girls that don't start will surely love not playing at all. Starters will stay in for entire games as they can't re-enter after being subbed...

ECNL teams already only play 30 or less games per year. How many fewer do you want? 20? 15? The 2 game weekends for ECNL actually save money as you only travel half as much.

It gets spread out over ten months instead of jammed into a shorter ECNL season. Fewer weekends of back to back games

Do they basically take over the league like they did for u12 boys DAP? Have like 7 DA girls clubs in both OR & WA? That's 14 teams in each age group!

Each DA club will have 3 teams only. And if they're truly talking about the best of the best, Oregon won't get into the league.

It won't be the best of the best. My guess is almost all the clubs that got boys u12 DA get GDAP, plus the Thorns Academy (gimme). If it's "elite", then only Thorns Academy.

What other countries have this (DA) type of program? Has it been proven to be a successful model?

If the boy's side gives us any insights into what the girl's side might look like:

6 DA clubs (12 teams) at U12, funneling into 1 starting at U13. Of course, they might expand the U13 pool as well... Maybe the same clubs will be asked to shorten the roster to 1 team at U13? Then at U14 it truly becomes elites by channeling into a single club?

                                a) no HS soccer
                                b) higher practice to game ratio than they desire
                                c) quality of competition no higher, and possible lower, than ECNL
                                d) coaching levels no different than today
                                e) 2 year age groups
                                f) no returning to games once substituted

IF the DA actually launches, and IF it includes clubs in the NW, and IF it's heavily subsidized, and IF the local club isn't run by the Timbers, and IF they change their rules to allow HS and more subs, THEN they might have a chance. Otherwise, nothing will change from what we have in Oregon today.
You lost all creditability at 'Even if it's completely free, the vast majority of girls aren't going to do it'. I stopped reading because that's just stupid.
