Let me throw you a 50 mph slant pass and see if you can get away from the defender, catch the ball, and then and proceed at break away speed or prevent the defender from knocking the ball away.

Let me stick you in front of a college basketball guard and see you can defend the dribble penetration one on one. You'd get dunked on 9 out of 10 times.

Let me take the 300 lb athlete and see if he can power rush a 360 lb offensive lineman and succeed at tackling a running back or sacking the QB.

Let me take the Robert Griffin and stick him in the QB position and see if he can just run away from folks. Nope. Gets broken in half on the regular. Better learn how to throw like Payton and read the defense (skill not athleticism).

I could go on an on. The point being athletes are only valuable if they have the skills to excel at beating other athletes. Athletes without skills are called normal people. So believe it or not you need just as much technical coaching and work in football and basketball as soccer. Trust and believe it.

    Reasonable point.

I dont think it was ever realistic to begin with. Rumor is 4-5 regions focused around SoCal, Northeast, Chicago/Midwest, TX and maybe NoCal or mid Atlantic

That can't be true because on Talking Soccer they says ECNL is dead and Oregon was only able to get 2 years in

It's OK. Thorns Academy can still finish mid pack in OYSA.

The USDA for girls will become the top elite tier of competition available going forward and yes they will get all of the top clubs/teams from the current ECNL, at least the ones they choose to take, remember it will be an elite standard so having just 30 to 40 clubs field teams will create a legitimate top flight level of play across the US. Something sorely lacking at all level of girls soccer (USCS, USYS and 70 % of the ECNL)

Oregon is not even an "also ran" in the muddied A-Z level of clubs/teams that feature in the current ECNL. Having 2 local Oregon neighborhood clubs sign up to play in the current ECNL natoon wide massive league structure does allow the lowest tier of teams in the ECNL to have decent match ups against the local Oregon girls teams at so called showcase as evidenced this last weekend in San Diego. Having Oregon field 2 teams each at u14-u18 divisions and call themselves an elite club or elite team is not only laughable it's absurd given the 30+ years of history of Girls Clubs teams at our State/Regional level forget about a National level Oregon has never been in that conversation.

If Peregrine LLC aka Timbers/Thorns act on their invite to be part of the Girls USDA they will be forced to subsidize the Girls program to at least have a chance of getting the best of the best from SW Washington & Oregon (imagine their territory will include parts of other states in the region as well). Even if they get a slam dunk of getting the top tier talent given the standard of play in the Girls USDA it will be almost as big as challenge as the two local clubs face trying to compete in the lower levels of the current ECNL.

If it doesn't cost mom & dad 10K like the ENCL it does, they will offer a level of play that the best of the best our locals would dream to play at.

In the end if the new USDA girls teams formed by the Timbers/Thorns are cheaper than the local clubs fees to travel in the ECNL league, the local players will tryout and join this level vs staying with the neighborhood club and coaches.

The question is are the Timbers/Thorns ready to really move the girls game to this level or continue our with this diluted mess of acronyms and insane travel fees.

If PNW gets a GDA, it will be in Washington. Watch for one of the ECNL clubs to become GDA.

Crossfire Girls will get the nod for Girls Development team in WA, but they won't get it if the Sounders/Reign decide they want the spot--just as the Timbers/Thorns Girls Development have all the clout with US Soccer in the PWN representing Oregon.

Sadly there is no clout in the ENCL anymore, just travel and liquor bills.

If US Soccer wants 2 PNW teams 1 in PDX & 1 Seattle for this new elite level US GDA will the Timbers/Thorns bite and go all in? or will this quagmire of diluted parity ridden local club girls soccer continue to fester and blow through acronyms and frequent flier miles racking up hotel bar tabs for the soccer moms/dads in cities across the USA?

There won't be any DA clubs in the NW. SU is going ECNL. Xfire and WPFC are sticking with ECNL. Thorns won't get DA because there will be nobody to play. You'd be surprised how United the ECNL clubs are right now. They plan to fight hard to keep providing the best option for elite players.

Why? So they can play themselves? Fly to every league game? That's why there won't be DA up this way. As another said it will be focused around other key areas like Southern California, NYC.

There are some very good ECNL clubs out there....they're just not here :(

Exactly, and adding DAP won't change that fact.

In any case when the top 40 or so clubs in the USA leave the ECNL to the USDA you better get united and try and save a shallow brand, because you have been GUTTED-torn apart-marginalized and now just tell everybody it isn't so and you are fighting this, problem is the train is on the track--get out of the way or get run over while being united.

How about just the truth tell everyone we are no longer the top choice for elite players and change their nick name. So, what's the new nickname for the ECNL due to the rapture?

Ironic thing is Oregon does nothing for the ECNL with it's membership teams. Other than collecting fees for playing other weak teams. The ECNL would rather improve it's brand by kicking out the Oregon local clubs and trying to keep the standard at least average not poor. After the ECNL lose the top clubs to the DA the Oregon clubs don't even raise their stock, still at the bottom of an even lessor collection of teams. You went from being ranked #86 club to the #46 team without doing anything on the field, kind of the same criteria that allowed you into the ECNL mess.

The ECNL folks are still delusional, the sky isn't falling.

History suggests the Timbers/Thorns don't care what you think, they have the machine money & power to just do it..see Boys DA...next see Girl DA. They do it because no one can stop them. Whether or not it's a 'good decision' It's Good to be the king of all things Soccer in Oregon, without any competition or club leadership to put up fight. Sad Really.

It's Worked well for them so far, how are you going to stop them?

Please keep singing the mantra even though they USDA gutted the ECNL we are still united and the spaceship is coming to pick us up soon and take us away from this hell.

Every DOC in this town apparently has a crystal ball; it is amazing they come up with such different predictions and state them with such confidence.

                          Do agree with one piece-

"History suggests the Timbers/Thorns don't care what you think, they have the machine money & power to just do it..see Boys DA*****

Assuming for a second that resistance is futile, can't don't you agree it can be fun?

There will be GDA in Seattle. Even though clubs will apply next month, USSF has already been reaching out to big clubs with successful ECNL programs as anchor clubs to help launch successfully. Crossfire will become GDA in 2016. They will not be ECNL in 2017. They will be the only club in the PNW to have both boys & girls USSDA.

XFire out and SU in? This stuff is too funny.

I bet there will some nice $$$ incentives for top ECNL clubs to change to GDA. But what exactly does this mean for Oregon? I'm ok with not having a GDA. Even better would be to have only one ECNL team.
