Your club team must be pretty bad if you prefer HS soccer...

That's fair, we haven't heard anything from our club. They are probably still trying to figure it out. Just waiting to see for now.

H.S. has school spirit and support. The games are more exciting. The kids like playing with friends that play for other clubs and in different grades. The practices are right after school and the games are closer so it saves on driving, and it's a lot cheaper. Many more reasons. Our coaches are good, but realize that not everyone has that. Maybe you should talk to your school about improving your school.

We will see what happens, but we will be asking for a refund. As customers, we have the power here to talk some sense to the coaches and clubs. If they are going to change to birth years, start with U11 not the established teams. For our daughter, because of other sports, she will not be doing club next year, but was planning to play through the summer with her team. Poor planning!
Too bad to break up teams. Worse to break them up early. The u14s tried out and signed up to play until the end of July. Our club is honoring their side of the bargain. The u14 teams will stay together and play as a team until the end of July. It's bad enough that they have to break up as it is.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;1747112]FYI, the expression is 6 IN one hand, not ON. On makes you sound like you have 6 fingers)

Funny stuff - I just love it when folks go out of their way to correct someone else with something even more incorrect. The saying is "Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other". Maybe you're combining it up with the "bird in the hand" phrase.

Anyhow, the point of the original poster was clear so who cares if they quoted the phrase incorrectly....certainly looks much worse to tell them they said it wrong and then do the same thing yourself.

Six birds in one hand beats a half dozen winter playing soccer teams in the bush. I think THAT's what he meant.

So at your club what will the fall 02's do? They will be team less as of May tryouts sounds like.

Play soccer like everyone else. The good clubs have lots of options. TA clubs, not so much.

The TA clubs still will have HS age (2002 k above) tryouts in August. Supplemental tryouts in Nov.
Not true for TA clubs. All clubs will have May tryouts all ages. As someone else posted, tge HS-aged teams will do summer tournaments before returning to their own high school activities for Fall. HS club leagues will start up after OSAA playoffs.

The fall 2002s will form a team for practice and summer tournaments. If need be, they will pull up a few 2003s for tourneys. Easily done as they will attend different tourneys. Those current u13 2002s will be without a team come Aug-Nov anyway due to the orders being off at HS soccer. This way our clubs younger 2002s will already have a team and will play together in the fall. They are looking into a special fall league for all the club's current u13 2002s - 5v5 or 7v7 or something if need be. Our club is looking out for all the younger 2002s.

Don't blame the 'by birth year' requirement on the clubs and the coaches. This is a mandate from US Youth Soccer for ALL four regions. Don't comply, don't play.

I don't know of a club that won't refund the difference for players who don't come to May tryouts or get cut from the new year teams. The USYS decision has created a multitude of problems to work out for state associations, clubs, teams, coaches, players, and families.

For those players that have played under birth year requirements (e.g., ODP) the transition is likely a bit easier. If you have a high school-aged player and he/she plays club ball, be aware that college recruiters know the change to birth age rule too.

& honoring their commitment to the current 2001 teams!
