Honestly, to each their own but community college or even no soccer at all, are very good options for some... even if their player was a star. Let's say my player got a 1/2 scholly to play D1 at PSU. I'm not sure I'd want her to do that over a community college + transfer to a better school. I don't know. But we shouldn't bash players that choose PSU, or community college, or no soccer at all. Everyone has to set their own priorities, but we have to make sure it's now OUR priorities. Our kids need at least some of the say. I know A LOT of top HS soccer players that decide they are ready to move on to a career, drop the notion of college soccer altogether. That's ok too. The parents are for sure a problem in all of this. Parents set their own expectations. And the more we invest, the more all in we become.

Think about it, the 1st 2 years are essentially free if they play soccer, then transfer to a 4 year school and get a solid degree at a much reduced price. Everyone is pressing so hard for a Div 1 soccer ride. That's great but it's for a very, very small %. And even then, a high % of the very few that play Div 1, quit or are pushed off the team in the first 2 years. Meanwhile, we spend and spend and spend ridiculous amounts of money chasing that 'dream'.

We generally strive to achieve a little higher in our house. Community College would be great for a cooking class or to learn a foreign language on the side, but it's not very appealing in terms of setting one up for four year college. But hey, if it's good for the ECNL crowd, then so be it.
