Set the bar wherever you want but, if you're DD is playing at a TA club, community college is about all there is.

Hoping your DD is the first in your family to graduate HS, huh?

Looking through the ECNL signings and I see some community college commits. I guess for some of them it was that or nothing. Lot of money for community college. But hey, if your dd is happy....

Maybe the community college offered them what they want academically? At least the ECNL players get to play at CC, while their teammates from TA clubs ride the pine or carry water bottles.

Or devoted to much time to competitive soccer and not enough to their studies. Or were scholarship players and can't afford to pay to play college soccer.

Or had parents who spent all of their college money on ECNL and when no real offers came along, had to go to CC and live at home.

We know the results aren't good, but they will get better.

Community college is a very good option, especially if they transfer to a 4 year school. Think about it, the 1st 2 years are essentially free if they play soccer, then transfer to a 4 year school and get a solid degree at a much reduced price. Everyone is pressing so hard for a Div 1 soccer ride. That's great but it's for a very, very small %. And even then, a high % of the very few that play Div 1, quit or are pushed off the team in the first 2 years. Meanwhile, we spend and spend and spend ridiculous amounts of money chasing that 'dream'.

Honestly, to each their own but community college or even no soccer at all, are very good options for some... even if their player was a star. Let's say my player got a 1/2 scholly to play D1 at PSU. I'm not sure I'd want her to do that over a community college + transfer to a better school. I don't know. But we shouldn't bash players that choose PSU, or community college, or no soccer at all. Everyone has to set their own priorities, but we have to make sure it's now OUR priorities. Our kids need at least some of the say. I know A LOT of top HS soccer players that decide they are ready to move on to a career, drop the notion of college soccer altogether. That's ok too. The parents are for sure a problem in all of this. Parents set their own expectations. And the more we invest, the more all in we become.

That's good for you. If were to tell my dd that she has to go to community college, she would be devastated. We generally strive to achieve a little higher in our house. Community College would be great for a cooking class or to learn a foreign language on the side, but it's not very appealing in terms of setting one up for four year college. But hey, if it's good for the ECNL crowd, then so be it.

99% of ECNL kids are NOT doing CC

Bingo! Unless money is no problem, spend more time and money on academics not soccer. Will get your child MUCH further in the long run and in life in general.

Kinda funny then how your boss and his boss are both CC grads. But when you didn't finish HS what can you expect, huh?

Not to mention that 85%+ of "D1 players" don't even get to play in the first 2 years anyway.

Funny, but my boss has a PhD and his boss likely has a BS and a MBA. I also have a undergrad and grad degree. You must have been thinking about yourself. Sanitation Engineer doesn't fool anyone by the way, pumping out honey buckets is what you really do.

Then why are so many ECNL parents on here defending community college? They seem to act like it's some paramount achievement.
