One of the coaches told me 60% of his players played ECNL, another coach told me it is 70%, and the other coach said 60%. I'm anticipating that the percentages may increase for ECNL players on these teams, but I still am of the belief that you can do the following without paying ECNL fees:

    1. hire an awesome technical trainer
    2. find opportunities for your daughter to train with ECNL players
    3. play with a team that travels outside of Oregon and plays in tough tournaments.

This way, you get the technical training you need AND you are playing with quality players.

If you do #1, 2 and 3 you will pay far more than what anyone at ECNL is paying.

Boys in Oregon do not have to pay ECNL like fees. They travel with their club teams to Surf, for example, and they have done well. What's the difference, then, you may ask? Why are the boys programs more successful than the girls programs in Oregon? It's the coaching. Westside, Eastside, Crossfire, and CFC have top notch coaches who emphasize technical. Having a boy and a girl, I can tell you that my son's coaches far surpass the ability of the girls coaches from the top clubs in Oregon for girls. Oregon needs to pull these boys coaches into the girls programs and pay them accordingly! You will see a dramatic difference in performance for our girls.

This is an interesting discussion. How do you capture the intense interest in women's soccer that the world cup brings? We get good crowds here in Portland but not so much in the rest of the country.

Building a strong women professional soccer brand would trickle down to youth soccer. Academies funded by professionals.

That is all way more expensive then playing ECNL. This may be a good plan if youre child is committed to playing soccer and she doesn't make ECNL roster.

The thing is....I've watched sessions run by ECNL staff and it is consistent with US Youth Soccer development...two sessions I saw were outright terrible.

We are better off without you. The last thing we need is another parent that thinks they have the next Abby Wambach and every coach is horrible

There's a reason for that. US Youth Soccer doesn't have a clue about development. Anybody who follows their guidelines is just making things worse.

Please let me know what the alternative is in Oregon if you want good competition and lots of college exposure?
There is no alternative which is why TA clubs resort to bashing on talking soccer and within their clubs. They can't compete and offer no compelling reason for top players to not participate.

The only alternative is to play with your club and travel for better competition. As soon as you start doing this you start paying the same costs that make ECNL so expensive and defeat the inane cost bashing.

                        Same coaches, higher price tag.

Not a problem when you get twice the training and those "same coaches" are already light years better than any Timbers Alliance coach. FACT.

Better than the dad coaches at Alliance clubs.

It's still the best option in Oregon. Your jealousy is amusing!
