Pretty unlikely that the Thorns will make the NWSL playoffs this year. They have 22 points with 2 games remaining (max 28 points). Three other teams (Washington, Chicago, KC) already have 28 points and either 2 or 3 games to play. Scenarios look like this:
FC Kansas City are in the playoffs. Even if the Thorns catch them in the table, FC KC holds the tie-breaker.
Washington Spirit need to lose their last 3 games (KC, Thorns, Seattle) while the Thorns win both of theirs (one game is between Thorns and Spirit). AND the Thorns need to make up the 5 goal advantage Washington currently holds in Goal Differential.
Chicago Red Stars need to lose their last 3 games (all against teams well out of the playoff picture) while the Thorns win both of theirs. Thorns hold the tie-breaker here.
The Thorns only real hope is to catch Washington Spirit AND score enough goals to overcome the GD difference. It's a mighty slim chance at best.
