Why does it matter what you call it, she will be playing against other girls born in 2001. You could call it U40, it's still just birth year divisions. The only ones really affected by this are the older 05's who skip a year of smaller fields.

Cal South addressed the loss of a year of eligibility, calling it "unfortunate".

What "loss of a year of eligibility" are you talking about?

I am confused, you said this is the corrected bracket, but I believe this is wrong. If that is the case then a whole bunch of seniors turning 18 in 2016 will not have a place to play.

For example, Northern California already has the birth year in place, girls born in the first half of the 98 year are seniors so they play on the U17 team. They will graduate and the players born later in 98 will be U18 next year. Players born in 2001 will be U15 next year. Here is the U.S. Youth soccer chart:

Lost year of eligibility was discussed in the video. I encourage you to watch, though they really just shrug their shoulders about it.

It makes sense now, well it doesn't, but I get that they would then be turning 19 the next year. Uggh.

I wonder what the local clubs will do next year then for the 98's since it is not mandated until the next year, and does that mean if you are born September to December you just don't play your senior year or will leagues like ECNL, US youth soccer and U.S. Youth soccer add a U19?

U.S. soccer has clearly stated that all children who are born in Aug-Dec are both not needed and not wanted. For those Aug-Dec born players who are stupid enough to continue to play soccer, U.S. Soccer will force them to suddenly play with players in the older grade who have an extra year of experience, take away one full year and one half year of club soccer play at important times and also shun the Aug-Dec players at all current birth year elite teams/trainings. How dense are you younger, smaller players? Get out! U.S. soccer needs to get rid of you so they can more easily promote the only true stars who can save the USMNT: the Jan+ born players. Seriously, how much worse do we need to make it in order for you to get the hint and GET OUT! Go play lacrosse or something. We have serious soccer business to get to with the early birth month kids and all your question and whining are just annoying and delaying our agenda.

I get your rant, but really not relevant. This is not about stomping your foot and telling US soccer how crummy they are, but more of a genuine care of figuring out how it will effect those older kids, some who have already committed to college, are born the second half of 1998 and who will be seniors next year. Too late for them to go play LaCrosse, thankfully. I can think of at least 6 that are committed, are current juniors, and born in 1998.

Has anyone heard how our local clubs are handling this?

Final year of club is a 2 year age group. No issues

I feel for them. At least those Aug-Dec kids are already committed. The Aug-Dec kids just now heading into 8th grade, will now find it MUCH harder to be recruited. The superstars, yes. The solid will miss out on a year and a half. Next year the Aug-Dec 2002 8th graders will have no true team since at least half their teammates will be freshmen. They will also be forced to skip ahead a year to join players who have all been playing an extra year and with older players in the grade above (& in HS vs middle school which adds a whole huge social dynamic as well). Then, senior year, no true team all of senior year. And if you think going back to a joint u18/u19 team that last year has zero issues for recruitment, you are crazy.

We will soon see if our clubs and leagues care about the Aug-Dec kids and what measures they plan to take to at least mitigate the negative impact. Big questions that need answers are the 8th/9th grade issue and the senior year issue. Providing "some mish mash team" at those times (for a year and a half) vs the Jan-July players getting their solid A-team experience all 5 years (8th-12th) every year will tip the majority of Aug-Dec players out of recruitment contention.

The local clubs haven't even told the members that they have to go birth year at the next try outs... Most folks still have no idea any of this is coming. Going to be fun!

Yes it is lucky they are already recruited, as they are juniors, I was referring to several kids on different teams, just the ones I know of in this situation. And more of their teammates will most likely be committed later this year as well. Most of the teammates are 99s though and therefore this will not be an issue, they will have a team their Senior year. Allowing the U18/U19 to stay together is temporary as a real fix. IE, the 98 and 99 kids are already playing together, but going forward any Aug to Dec birthday kids will be a year younger in school, then play with their classmates senior year only, and be expected to be folded into a full team. And that only works if the whole league adopts a U18/U19 standpoint. Hopefully most kids are recruited by end of their junior year, but having a good place to play getting ready for college is equally important.

This went out to our little club (NEU) last week. Some questions answered, some items still to be worked out.

I do think a number of clubs have been holding off until the various governing bodies clarified some pieces (there are still conflicting charts floating around for example) and certainly there are a bunch of implementation pieces to figure out at league/state level; think there will was OYSA meeting this week so hopefully some clarity around some of these questions, although for next fall, etc., imagine some league pieces won't know until next summer.
