I’d love to see clubs have events where they put all their top players together, where a 15-year-old is playing with 18-year-olds, because many of them can do it.
Jill Ellis doesn't have a clue.

Former US mens coach said he encouraged playing up like they do in Europe.

Jill Ellis makes $300,000 per year.
Jurgen K. makes $300,000 per month....

That seems a little unfair since she has been more successful.

Apples and oranges. I know several CEOs who have outperformed at their company than has Marisa Mayer at Yahoo, but she makes multiples more. Unfair? No, just not the same situation, market size, etc.

Btw, probably fair to say JK's task is more daunting than JE's?

Only if you're a top 10% player at a crappy club with a bunch of rec players for teammates. Move to a real club and most of those "play ups" find themselves riding the pine on real A teams on age.

Yeah the European academies are crappy clubs with a bunch of rec players...

Look at their play up philosophy.

All the national team coaches must not know anything either.

Waaa waaa waaaa. Have your kid play up if it makes you feel important. Just know that everyone else is laughing at you and your kid as he/she rides the pine and just gets worse and worse. Just like you.

The European model is good and they do push kids beyond their age group. It has to be a kid by kid basis. It's not "playing up". There's not reason why kids should be playing with their age peers. It's playing where your kid fits talent/athletically.

                      Bingo!

I see it every year... kids who are held back by their club/coach for the sake of winning.

Which clubs are having birth year training groups? How are they going? Are they open to everyone or only current club members?

Contact the club you're interested in and ask.

Has anyone heard of any teams or clubs not going birth year 2016 and waiting till 2017?

Maybe some tiny clubs. Since OYSA & US CLUB have both said going birth year by fall 2016, all but the very small clubs in those leagues will go birth year or become irrelevant.

Clubs don't really have a choice if their league goes 2016, or if they play in virtually any decent tournament. They have to follow the regs or have teams play up. That can mean teams are less competitive, which means less attractive W/L records, which leads to more families leaving and fewer coming in. Less of an issue HS and up, but in those middle school years where kids can grow a foot overnight, even small age differences can really matter. Weaker/smaller clubs are in a tough spot - bow to parental pressure to keep "friends" so they stay? Or pull the bandaid to try and stay competitive? Big clubs have the draw and should be able to fill their teams with quality players no matter where they cutoff.
