Why is OYSA more expensive than the OPL?

I for one hope that under OYSA they will go back to subsidizing programs that by themselves would be cost prohibitive but with a few dollars per player can help advance the greater good of soccer. Examples: ODP and TOP Soccer. $3 - $10 per players isn't much to promote good programs that benefit the soccer community as a whole.

      ODP already has scholarships.

I don't think any of the top HS ages even do ODP. There are a handful of kids from our club that have been invited to National Camps and have never done ODP.

ODP is used as an example of programs that were previously subsidized under OYSA but were not supported by OPL. One of the reasons that most high school age girls do not do it is because it is cost prohibitive. Back in the day if you made the regional team as an example then your holdover cost were taken care of by the program. Once OPL pulled out they were no longer able to offer assistance. It doesn't necessarily need to be ODP, you fill in the blank _____ of programs that may be of value but are not affordable without some sort of subsidization. Perhaps the national camps are paid for by through these funds. The last time my daughter went to national camp (this is the reason it was the last) it cost us almost $700. If it were subsidized to encourage kids to strive for that next level you might find more kids trying.

A scholarship is different than subsidization. As an example, prior to OPL pulling out and not providing the $3 per player, ODP participation for all participants was not as cost prohibitive. As an example tournament play went from an average of $350 per player to $700 per player.

Eventually all of the top girls will be doing ECNL and their ODP (aka as PDP) is free

                TOPSoccer

OYSA announced a few weeks ago that player and coach registration for TOPSoccer would be free for the 2015/2016 seasonal year. That is a step in the right direction.

Are you saying that ECNL has an ODP program? I do not think it does. Furthermore, it it is a situation where most of the chosen players are from the best teams which pretty much leaves Oregon in the dust. That was the beauty of ODP , you could try out and if you made it then you could keep trying to advance. ECNL doesn't help Oregon yet as all it does is allow you to travel and play high level teams. It does not allow for consolidation of talent so that you can show well.
