So even if it's $7,000 on the low end then it's another $4000 or so if the parent wants to travel. That only happens at the young ages then parents are not really invited. They can come, but it's a little weird.

Travel is not cheap. Fact of life.

Here's a typical U16 schedule for November to May. There could also be playoffs and summer tournaments depending on the team. Nothing in the fall during HS soccer.

I respectfully request that you keep parent travel out of the discussion. That is out of the club's control and should be a private matter with the families.

Sounds about right. There might be a few more. It depends on the age as some travel more. Also there are lost season tournaments for those that qualify. Those aren't listed so they would be in addition. You want to be on a good team too. There are some ECNL teams that are not very competitive and get regular beat downs. Some of them call Portland home. But some Portland teams are pretty good.

I think it is good to have all the information. Including parent travel costs.

Parent travel costs can vary a lot and can vary from the costs for the player. It depends on how you book your flights. Some people stay with family and friends. It's hard to say what the parent costs are because there are so many variables. I know some travel with their frequent flyer miles and get free rooms due to programs. It's all over the place.

I don't have a dog in the fight. Makes no difference to me.
I do have a couple of very good friends, that I trust implicitly, and I would tell you that this is what was told to me. Take it as you will.
1). Their daughter played for CU ECNL, as a U-14 this year.
2). They (parents) only went to 1 away tournament. They DID NOT travel for the league games. They sent the daughter with a chaperone (air ride) and then I think they put 3 girls and 1 adult same sex (mother) per each room. You add that up for trips to Salt Lake and Boise and the Bay Area and let's say $250-$350 for air fare, split the cost of a $125/night Courtyard Marriott by 4 for 3 nights and then add in food---it comes out to be about $500 to $600 per league weekend, if you are traveling via air. More expensive for trips to Dallas, Phoenix and San Diego.
3). I have another buy that has a daughter that plays for FC---they do it pretty much the same way----if your daughter is NOT traveling, they send her via a chaperone (for the air) and they put the girls in a room of 3 girls per 1 adult. Add in food/misc and he said it was fairly similar---$500-$700 per away trip (again, depending on the misc and the food costs)--he said FC has a 'travel coordinator' that is very good to work with. You just put cash/funds into your daughter's account and they show you the final result/expenses after each trip or tournament.

Either way--make sure you do your homework, ask your questions and make sure you have a pretty good idea. I would say that the rough figures that are thrown around of $5000-$7500 per year, all in (without parent travel) are probably fairly accurate and true.
Some will bash you and say it's more. Some will bash you and say it's less. Count on $5000 to $7500 and you probably will be in the ball park.

Couple errors. They didn't travel to Boise AND Salt Lake. It was just Salt Lake this year. And FC travels with 16 girls - 4 to a room.

We are just under 5,000 but I have to point out that including food and misc. is kind of silly. If my dd is home on the weekend she is certainly eating and doing misc. activities.

Travel portion is right around $5,000. Fees to club are $2000. Kit was a couple hundred. So estimating $7500 is pretty fair. Maybe a bit more.

At the ECNL meeting that Garret had with the U13 group last week, he handed us a flyer with costs based on this past year. Ask FC for one.

Having a dd that is finishing up the ECNL year at U14 at FCP the flyer is pretty darn accurate to slightly higher then actual costs. However, there were a couple of additional trips for us to the Seattle area. One was for WCDA play and a trip up for NWCL.

Keep in mind it is competitive soccer. If your dd is on the bubble for making a roster you may not have to pay for some trips because she wont get selected for that travel roster. You don't pay for those. If you dd is the next Alex Morgan, then budget for all events.

I should have said compared to the flyer they gave us last year. I have not seen the flyer they gave the u13's.

But if she's a bubble player, she subsidizing the costs for the non bubble players. And the travel games is where they take some of the lower players anyway since some of the better players don't want to pay to travel. Everyone wants to play when you are playing in Portland. Or didn't you get the memo from the club a few weeks ago?
